Every evening except Friday night, Ah Hai’s food truck will be parked at the intersection of Kimberley Street and Cintra Street. Make-shift tables and chairs can be found along the veranda of closed shops. The owner, a Khor Kim Hai or 阿海 Ah Hai grew up on Kimberley Street, it is his father-in-law that taught him the Koay Teow Thng recipe. There is another similar stall at the Jelutong morning market where his wife’s sister and brother-in-law operates.
The Koay Teow Thng comes with a light but flavorful pork broth, the noodle can be either 米粉 Beehoon, 米台目 Thick rice noodles, 面线 Misua or 河粉(粿條) flat rice noodles/koay teow. I can see some fish cake, fish ball, minced pork, pork slices, pig’s liver, fried pork lards, and an egg.
