On the bowl of Oden today, have had only the above 2 大根 Daikon and 2 Eggs (from the bowl of assorted Odens with Original Soup based) with the 黑咖啡 Black Coffee which should hopefully be a Keto friendly meal to start the morning! 

Daikon (大根, literally “big root”) is a widely used 根類蔬菜 root vegetable in Japanese cuisine. It is a 冬季蔬菜 winter vegetable characterized by its long white root and green leaves on top and resembles a huge pale carrot. It’s a 營養豐富 nutritionally loaded, 低熱量的蔬菜 low-calorie vegetable. The Japanese eats the Daikon 生吃 raw, 水煮 boiled (liked in an Oden dish), 燉 stew, 炒 stir fried or 醃製的 pickled. 磨碎的生蘿蔔 Daikon oroshi (grated raw daikon) is used as a condiment in many meat and fish dishes, as well as a refreshing addition to 天婦羅醬 tempura sauce (tentsuyu) and 蕎麥麵醬 soba noodle sauce. And this method eating the Daikon have started in the 江戶時代 Edo Period (1603-1868), as it was thought to 助於消化 aid digestion (which is true).

拉麵雞蛋 Ramen eggs are 日本的半熟雞蛋 Japanese soft-boiled eggs known for their custardy, jammy, runny yolk, and umami flavor. They are marinated overnight in a sweetened soy-based sauce. In Japan, we call these marinated eggs Ajitsuke Tamago (味付け玉子), short for Ajitama (味玉) or Nitamago (煮玉子).

Oden (おでん, 御田) is a type of 鍋物 Nabemono (日本一鍋菜 Japanese one-pot dishes) consisting of several ingredients such as 煮雞蛋 Boiled eggs, 白蘿蔔 Daikon or 魔芋 Konjac (unfortunately not Konjac today at the USJ10 Family Mart), and 加工魚餅 processed fishcakes stewed in a light, soy-flavored dashi broth. 

The Origin of でんが Oden is said to have date back to the 1400s (600 yeas ago in Japan), where 厚切塊 thick cuts of 硬豆腐 firm tofu were skewered, 烤 roasted/grilled, and served with a slather of miso. This came to be known as “豆腐田樂 'でんがく' Tofu Dengaku”, because the skewers resembled the wooden pogo sticks used by 田樂街頭表演者 Dengaku street performers. Dengaku was written as 田樂, and Oden still uses the reading of this first character, "田”. So, Oden is the "O" + "Den" from "Dengaku" and Oden in Japanese is 御田 (でんが). The dish is however popularized during the 江戶時代 Edo period; today there are several names for the Oden dish: 御田／關東煮／熬點. Oden was brought over to Taiwan during the Japanese colonization in Taiwan from 1895 to 1945 and "關東煮 Oden" became a popular street food or widely available in convince stores in the island of Taiwan.

Thoughts: Today's breakfast at USJ10's 全家 Family Mart, a Japanese convenience store but Korean style "韓式芝士拉麵 Korean Cheese Ramen" and "Guai Low" 拿鐵 Latte for breakfast! This 韓式芝士拉麵 Korean cheese ramen seemed to require minimal effort and is the perfect meal for when one need something quick, cheap, and delicious! The ingredient is simply 韓國方便麵 Korean Instant Noodle and 一片奶酪(芝士) a slice of Cheese; the cheese that melts into the steamy hot broth makes the ramen creamy and satisfying to eat! But by no means a healthy meal! However, a more elaborate topping besides the Korean Instant Noodle and Cheese (and Milk to further add the Creaminess) can be a 煎雞蛋 fried eggs, 玉米 Corn, 海藻Seaweed, 辣椒油 Chili oil, 午餐肉 Spam, and maybe even 泡菜 Kimchi.

全家便利商店 Family Mart opened its first store in Malaysia at Wisma Lim Foo Yong in 武吉免登Bukit Bintang, 吉隆坡 Kuala Lumpur on November 11, 2016. It has become popular because it is the first convenience store selling 軟冰淇淋 soft serve ice cream and 新鮮小吃 fresh snacks. There are a lot to offer: well packed Pastries, 飯糰 Onigiri, Oden, Ramen (prepared for you), Fried items, Sandwiches, even Pasta or Cheese-baked Rice meal, etc. Not forgetting many choices of Instant Noodles, Ice Cream, plus hot and cold/bottled beverages. 

For the Family Mart in USJ10, there are no proper table and chairs but a high table without chair for 2-3 customers Dine-in is possible, plus there are also electrical power points (Free) for a quick charge of your mobile devices.
