Chulia Street in George Town, Penang, transforms into a vibrant night hawker haven from late afternoon around 4:30pm to late evening 10:30pm or later, offering a diverse array of iconic Penang (or Malaysia) street food with Chinese and Malay hawker stalls. The stalls were originally setup along Chulia Street officially relocated to Lebuh Carnarvon (Carnarvon Street), just around the corner, starting late 2021 for better safety and hygiene due to the heavier traffics along Chulia street.
Among the street food hawker stalls along now Carnarvon Street are:
• 母子雲吞麵 Mother & Son Wonton Mee
Barbecue Chicken Wings
Clams etc
Penang Rojak (Pasembor)
Chulia Street's food scene evolved from its roots as part of George Town's Little India, named after Tamil (Chulier) settlers, blending Indian Muslim and Chinese culinary traditions within a UNESCO heritage site, becoming famous for its multicultural hawker stalls, budget guest house and hostels, and lively nightlife, and a lot of pubs along both Chulia Street as well as Love Lane; and of course the night time street hawkers along Carnarvon Street (except for Monday).
