Thoughts: And so, I am trying out for 2 nights at the Time Capsule hotel in Penang, located at Lebuh Chulia. Overall, wonderful experience except that the TV does not work and apparently it wasn't working for a long time. There were some problems with the luggage locker and the front-desk (only one person for a shift for the entire hotel) managed to break it and assign another locker! Other than than, I enjoyed the 2-nights stay.
The shared bathrooms were clean, the beds were made daily (I think) and Capsule areas were pleasantly clean and quiet at all time; except for the music from the next door pub.
Upon check-in, each guest is given a key to a luggage locker which is also used for a small SAFE inside the Capsule. There are no locks to each Capsule! It's comfy enough for one person with wonderful blue light ambiance. The bed and pillows are generally comfortable. Also provided is a bag of toiletries, no towels provided! But there are hangers at the Capsule rooms. Each guest will also get a rm$5 voucher for each night stay, which can be used to purchase anything from the grocer at the ground floor.
The Capsule hotel, probably is SAFER compared to Back-packers hotels as its 24 hours security with the Front-desk managing the entrance to the lift areas. Nevertheless, once inside, one seems to be able to go to any floor. The floors are designated for Male, Female, or Family/Couples!
At around rm50/night and a good location at Lebuh Chulia, within walking distances to many eateries and tourist spots; a very affordable lodging option for travelers to Penang. I did find the Hotel staff very friendly throughout the stay! Highly recommended.
