米饭汉堡 Locomoco Hamburg 玄米茶 Genmai Cha @ Nana's Green Tea KL Pavilion

05.07.2017 Lunch
@ Nana's Green Tea KL Pavilion
Pavilion Kuala Lumpur
米饭汉堡 Locomoco Hamburg
玄米茶 Genmai Cha $22.90
Thoughts: Loco moco is a meal in the contemporary cuisine of Hawaii. There are many variations, but the traditional "Loco Moco" consists of white rice, topped with a hamburger patty, a fried egg, and brown gravy.
I have never tried "Burger" with Rice! at the end, it is interesting. It comes with vegetables, a small tiny little bitsi steamed patato, and a poached egg on the side. Compared to the familiar taste to dry rat noodle with pork minced meat; this one surely excites the palate.
The set comes with a choice of Tea, I chose the Genmai Cha which is made from Karigane-Cha (a kind of Japanese Green Tea) and Roasted Brown Rice, it did have a sweet and unique taste as advertised.

炸鸡サラダ Chicken Karaage Salad, 鲑鱼肉饼 Salmon Croquette and 玄米茶 Gemmai-Cha @ Nana's Green Tea at Pavilion KL

28.12.2016 Lunch
Nana's Green Tea at Pavilion KL
6.01.01, Level 6
Pavilion KL
Opening times: 10am - 10pm
炸鸡サラダ Chicken Karaage Salad $16
鲑鱼肉饼 Salmon Croquette $12.80
玄米茶 Gemmai-Cha $9.10
Thoughts: It was definitely a good choice, the fried chicken on the salad called "Chicken Karaage Salad". It must be an appetizer dish, and seems much popular in the Western World and the Americans called it JFC "Japanese Fried Chicken". Well marinated coated with potato starch before frying. Xixing the JFC with the Salad was a good touch.
Salmon Croquette, its Salmon fried with crispy fried croquette served on a bed of leaf lettuce; of course it is "slightly" oily as it is deep fried.
Genmaicha (玄米茶, "brown rice tea") is the Japanese name for green tea combined with roasted brown rice. It is sometimes referred to in Japan as "popcorn tea" because a few grains of the rice pop during the roasting process and resemble popcorn!

かりがね茶 Karigane-Cha @ Nana's Green Tea KL Pavilion

12.12.2016 Lunch
Nana's Green Tea at Pavilion KL
6.01.01, Level 6
Pavilion KL
Opening times: 10am - 10pm
かりがね茶 Karigane-Cha with set meal
Review: The menu says かりがね茶 Karigane-Cha comes from the stem of Uji-Cha with "wild bitter taste and distinctive lush new fragrance." I was not sure about the wild bitter taste part, but maybe a little (due to it being taken from the stem of the Uji-Cha). I suppose lush new fragrance is a good description. But I like the Uji-Cha better which has more distinctive tea taste.
Karigane is made from parts of Gyokuro and Sencha (stems, leaves and powder) that are sorted during the manufacturing process. Since かりがね Karigane (茎茶Kukicha) is sorted from high grade 煎茶 Sencha, it is less expensive than the tea leaves of those main products. It is said of an excellent value as it has a better flavor than tea leaves of the same price range.
I re-filled the tea-pot so it was 4 cups of hot tea, very nice indeed.

Opening times: 10am - 10pm
Tori Soboro Don $22.90 (Set H)
Review: Tori Soboro Don 鶏そぼろ丼, (Tori 鶏 is Chicken, Soboro そぼろ means minced (in this case minced chicken), and Don 丼 means bowl of food) Therefore Tori Soboro Don 鶏そぼろ丼 means "Minced chicken in a bowl" (I think).
Well, the menu says like this "Special marinated minced chicken served over millet rice and garnished with pea/sprout spring onion and Japanese style poached egg".
Millet rice is 小米饭, no wonder the rice was short and rounded, a bit creamy. Wikipedia says its much more nutritious than rice or wheat. "Millets contain low phytic acid and are rich in dietary fiber, iron, calcium, and B vitamins. Moreover, these millets release sugar slowly in the blood and also diminish the glucose absorption. These properties of the minor millets made the present consumers." (Wikipedia).
Topping the minced chicken with the poached egg and sprout spring onion was nice. It wasn't a too heavy meal, just enough before I ended with some Japanese tea (see next post).
I was a satisfied customer, this is the 4 times I was at Nana's Green Tea at KL Pavilion in the past 3 months.

ほうじ茶ラテ Hoji Latte
Review:
Houjicha is a Japanese green tea. It is roasted in a porcelain pot over charcoal and not steamed like most other Japanese teas (according to a web article). The tea is fired at a high temperature, altering the leaf color tints from green to reddish brown. The process was first performed in Kyoto, Japan in the 1920s and its popularity persists today.

南蛮鸡 Chicken Nanban @ Nana's Green Tea KL Pavilion

01.12.2016 Lunch
Nana's Green Tea at Pavilion KL
Pavilion, Jalan Bukit Bintang, KL
南蛮鸡 Chicken Nanban $22.90
Review:
Nanban 南蛮 (In mandaran direct translation literally says Southern Babarian). The exotic products that the Chinese and other European traders brought to Japan were collectively called nanban. This term was originally used in China (pronounced naanmaan 南蛮, chinese word and japanese kanji the same) to refer to the “southern barbarians” they fought along their borders. In Japan, however, “nanban” was used to mean something foreign and highly desirable.
Nanban cooking style is synonymous to exotic spices cooking for curry and fried meats and so there is Nanban Curry, Nanban Chicken etc. Chicken Nanban is chicken fried in oil, dipped lightly in sugared vinegar and then finished off with a tartar sauce topping. A dish that is often seen in eateries throughout Miyazaki Prefecture. (Web Source).
