Thoughts: Looks like USJ17's "Restoran Salim Dheepah Maju" has return back to a 24 hours operation (according to the Mamak waiter today), and it is becoming as popular as its previous tenant "Sri Melur Jaya". 

Today's dinner, think is is a new setup of a Tandoori and Naan station with "唐杜里雞配印度烤餅 Chicken Tandoori Naan" at rm$9.50, and surprisingly nicer than expected!

Thoughts: In Malaysia, during the 聖誕節 Christmas season, all Malaysian food is available every day. When the Malay shops are closed during the 開齋節 Hari Raya days, one can still get Chinese and Indian food every where; 排燈節 Deepavali sees many Indians close their shops to celebrate for the Indian New Year but Chinese and Malay restaurants will be welcoming everyone. 

The 華人農曆新年 Chinese New Year will see some shops (especially Chinese Kopitiam which have be opening ALL year round) will be closing for 3, 4 or some even 6 or 7 days where Chinese hawkers take a long break after a hard years work at hawker stalls in Chinese Kopitiams around the country. During these off days, Mamak and Malay eateries will be more crowded than usual.

The Malaysian government has announced the lifting of operating hour restrictions for business premises as part of Malaysia’s transition to the endemic phase from 1st April 2022. Restaurants and eateries can operate past midnight, allowing 嘛嘛档 Mamak restaurants, 快餐店 fast food outlets and other eateries to open 24 hours. USJ17's "Restoran Salim Dheepah Maju" was expected to be crowded today, on this 1st day of the Chinese New Year and finally it will now be opened for 24 hours where one of USJ's favorite neighborhood Roti Canai is available all day long as well as all night long.

Thoughts: The new USJ17 Restoran Salim Dheepah Maju replacing Seri Melur Jaya is fast becoming the popular Mamak spot for the neighborhood. The new Mamak, reopened recently after the struggling Seri Melur finally closed recently. With almost the same layout except that it is now a 2 shop lot, and glad to see it takes up the next door as a air-conditioned section. 

The mamak style rm$4 炸雞 Ayam Goreng is better than the nearby imported fast food Fried Chicken, and it does not need to go with tomato or chili sauce; went well with the Dhal and Curry as a dipping sauce.

Thoughts: USJ17's Restoran Sri Melur Jaya finally succumbed to the Pandemic Apathy sometime last year. But over the past 30 over years, the corner shop lot in USJ17 never worked out for so many businesses including even a "Fish shop", until Sri Melur came along and at one time even offered a place for 24 hours Roti Canai! It is not just a place for early birds to visit as early as 5.30am for a quiet, breezy open air solo breakfast before hitting the road to work, but also a place for friends to gather for teh tarik and late night supper; and European live soccer TV into wee hours of the morning. The Mamak truly turned a once "Jinks" shop lot into a somewhat "風水店 Feng Shui shop" location corner shop lot and a popular destination for whom ever needing an occasional Roti Canai and Teh Tarik therapy. But during the Pandemic, the Mamak remained closed for Dine-in and only offered take-away and then finally closed for good several months ago. The shop lot was vacated for many month and only recently taken over by another Mamak called "Restoran Salim Dheepah Maju". The new Mamak, now also taken over the next shop lot as well for an air-conditioning section; while the existing corner shop lot remains almost the same interior with some changes to the location of the food corner and cashier. 

Today's breakfast is a rm$1.50 "淹沒印度煎餅 Roti Canai Banjir" or "Flooded Roti Canai (Indian bread)" with the Roti Canai shredded into bite-sized pieces and then completely flooded with Curry or Dhal and topped with some Sambal upon request. Personally really liked the thick dhal but the spicy sambal on the side provided a good kick to the slightly sweet dhal. 

The new "Restoran Salim Dheepah Maju" corner shop lot still comes with an open air windowless seating area with roof top and still offer a serene setting for a mamak especially early mornings, away from the trunk road as it is also next to a small park with lots of trees. For early birds of USJ12, 16, and 17 residents, can now come here again as early as 6am in the morning for a quiet and solo breakfast before the sunrise. All in all, nothing much has changed, except for the change of ownership, and some of the familiar faces of the previous Sri Melur staff are still around.
