Thoughts: One of the 老字號美食 time-honored food in KL's China Town is this simple home-made 紅醬招牌豬腸粉 Red Sauce Chee Cheong Fun. The 八十年家族事業 80 years old family business of 蕭氏 Xiao Family has gone through ups and downs and is now managed by the 第三代 3rd Generations in the 蕭 Xiao family. The old shop location also along Jalan Hang Lekir was established in 1943, the year after the 二戰結束日本軍投降 Japanese occupation ended in Malaya. I believe it was April 1, 2021 (last year) that the old shop decided to call it a day after 79 years (visited on November 15, 2016 and August 25, 2017) and move into the Kopitiam called 唐城美食中心 Tang City Food Court (which is just opposite the old stall location) as one of the hawker stall in that Kopitiam which is also along Jalan Hang Lekir. 裔記 Yooi Kee can still be found at that Kopitiam today (just behind the 炸番薯蛋 Fried street Potato ball stall), but less than 20m at the junction between Jalan Hang Lekir and Jalan Petaling and just next to 漢記靚粥 Hong Kee Porridge is another small operation of 裔記 Yoi Kee with 5 or 6 tables on the road shoulders of Jalan Hang Lekir, and if I recall correctly, this junction spot was a 水果攤 fruit stall which must have been succumbed to the Pandemic Apathy!

The 紅色甜醬 Red Sweet Sauce (rm$4 for 小點 small plate and rm$5 for 大點 big plate) that goes on top of the Chee Cheong was a secret recipe that was brought from 唐山 Tangshan (中國廣東 Guang Dong China) by the family's grand father who migrated from China to Malaya. It is said that the same Red Sweet Sauce recipe is still being used today. The Grand father came to Malaya and worked as a 打雜(後生) for a wealthy 地主 Landlord in 舊吉隆坡 Old Kuala Lumpur, later the Grand father got help from the 地主 Landlord to start his small little stall of selling his hand-made Chee Cheong Fun with the secret red sweet sauce from China at the old stall location along Jalan Hang Lekir! This nostalgic simple 紅醬招牌豬腸粉 Red Sauce Chee Cheong Fun still have many local fans who have been visiting the stall for a few decades.

As for 裔記 Yoi Kee, it is not only until about maybe 10 or 11 years ago, maybe around 2010 that 裔記 Yooi Kee decided to offer 炭煲粥 Charcoal boiled porridge as an additional choice for their customers. Of course, it is getting a lot of competition from the next door famous 漢記靚粥 Hon Kee Porridge which has more than 70 years of congee (Porridge) experience. And on a Monday morning in 茨廠街 KL China Town today, perhaps maybe it is also that some Cafes and the Petaling street morning market are closed on Mondays; that the street of Jalan Hang Lekir was unusually quiet on a Monday morning.
