Thoughts: The Every day 9am to 12pm rm$5.90 Breakfast set is probably one of the most budget friendly Breakfast set with 2 Half-boiled Eggs, Kaya Butter Toast and Black Coffee (or Tea), plus Senior Citizen gets a free glass of Chinese Tea! The rm$4.50 (expensive) Egg Tart was acceptable in taste and presentation. Pastries are from the opposite new stall "AMI Nanyang Bakery' which opened in USJ21's Main Place recently. The Bakery offers mostly Chinese Pastries as well as some choices of Taiwanese style popcorn chickens (I think!). 

南香雞飯 Nam Heong Chicken Rice, a Malaysian Hainanese chicken rice restaurant, has a history spanning almost 88 years, starting in 1938 in 吉隆坡唐人街 Kuala Lumpur's China Town. It's known for its 以正宗的海南雞飯聞名 original Hainanese chicken rice and has earned recognition like the "馬來西亞最古老的海南雞飯 Oldest Hainanese Chicken Rice in Malaysia" by the 馬來西亞紀錄大全 Malaysia Book of Record. The dish's origins can be traced back to the 文昌雞 "Wenchang Chicken" of 中國海南 Hainan, China, which was brought to 移民南洋的華僑 Southeast Asia by immigrants and modified over time.

Yes, 南香 Nam Heong is also known for its delicious 蛋塔 Egg Tarts. While the restaurant is primarily known for its Malaysian food, including its 招牌烤雞飯 signature roast chicken rice and 怡保白咖啡 Ipoh white coffee, many consider their 蛋塔 Egg Tarts to be a must-try.

Thoughts: 南香雞飯 Nam Heong Chicken Rice start way back in 1938, with over 85 years of history from its first outlet in 蘇丹街 Jalan Sultan (next to 茨廠街 Petaling Street in KL); and if not the same shop lot, there is still a Nam Heong shop along Jalan Sultan today. 南香 Nam Heong was originally a typical 海南咖啡店 Hainanese kopitiam where just like most of such kopitiams, it was offering 海南茶 Hainan Kopi, 烤麵包 Roti Bakar, and 半生熟蛋 Half-boiled egg! However, since after it started offering 正宗海南雞飯 authentic Hainanese Chicken Rice, the Hainanese Chicken Rice became Nam Heong's signature dish; though not too sure it is called 南香怡保 Nam Heong Ipoh! There is indeed a 南香怡保 Nam Heong Ipoh in USJ1 Damen Mall and from their facebook page; I believe they are the same restaurant. 

Regardless, the Nam Heong at USJ21 Main Place opened in August 2022 last year and it is the first HALAL branch among the other Nam Heong locations in Malaysia. 

Today's dinner recommendation by the shift Manager is the signature 白斬雞 steamed chicken (or 甘榜雞/菜園雞 Kampung Chicken, although some also called it 荷蘭雞 Holland chicken)! But I opt for the Combo pricy rm$19.90 "脆皮吊燒雞+招牌菜園雞 Roasted Chicken + Steamed Vintage Chicken", and definitely the steamed chicken was the right choice; not salty at all, yet tender and juicy BUT the roasted chicken was anything special. The 油飯 "Oily rice" was perfectly cooked and not too oily! Topping the Meaty chicken plate was some cucumber slices, 蔥花, and pepper plus a bowl of clear soup with tomato on the side. 

Instead of Nam Heong's signature Nam Heong White Coffee, opted for a chilled rm$4.90 "南洋咖啡 Vintage Coffee (cold)"; not too sweet or "Gao" but soft and mellow coffee flavor, highly recommended! 

It is probably not surprise that the 85 year history Nam Heong was awardedto be listed as the "Oldest Hainanese Chicken Rice Brand" by "the Malaysia BOOK of Records" in 2021. AND for what's its worth, 南香雞飯 Nam Heong Chicken Rice is also 1 of 15 restaurants in KL to receive the 米其林必比登 Michelin Bib Gourmand award (less prestigious than the Michelin star) in 2023! The "必比登 Bib Gourmand" is simply an award, that was created in 1997, attributed by the 米其林指南 Michelin Guide (which started in 1926). "必比登 Bib Gourmand" (NOT exactly a Michelin Star) distinguishes the good restaurants that offer a refined cuisine at an affordable price. And that price limit is different for each country. At this price, a 必比登 Bib Gourmand award-winning restaurant must offer a complete menu, with starter, main course and dessert, with an outstanding price/quality ratio. Although the 必比登 Bib Gourmand is obviously less prestigious than the Michelin star, it does reward the quality restaurants.
