西蘭花奶油湯 Cream of Broccoli soup is probably not middle eastern origin! It could be an American invention as there was such a soup that was introduced in 1990 by the 金寶湯公司 Campbell Soup Company. The soup was intended to be eaten on its own or used in other dishes. In fact, Campbell also ran a recipe contest to encourage people to eat broccoli. AND the story was that the winning recipe was submitted by California resident Priscilla Yee. Yee's recipe blended the soup with heavy cream, mayonnaise, aromatics, and potatoes. Campbell's then used Yee's recipe to create their own broccoli soup blends, including broccoli cheese soup!
The Main dinner dish tonight was a rm$20 "埃及蠶豆配芝麻醬 Foul with Tahina". "Foul with tahini (or is it tahini)", also known as ful medames, originated in 古埃及 ancient Egypt and is popular throughout the 中東 Middle East. Historians and archeologists believe that ful medames originated in ancient Egypt. It's a staple food in 埃及 Egypt, especially in 開羅 Cairo and 吉薩 Gizah. The preparation method and core ingredients have remained largely unchanged over the centuries. The dish is popular in many middle eastern country like 黎巴嫩 Lebanon, 敘利亞 Syria, and 以色列 Israel. Versions of the dish may include 蠶豆 Fava beans, 芝麻醬汁 Tahini gravy, 切碎的西紅柿 Chopped tomatoes, or even 煮雞蛋 boiled eggs. The version at Halab also comes with a side of fresh vegetables (ulam) of 黃瓜片 Cucumber slices, 櫻桃番茄 Cherry tomatoes, 蔥 Scallion, 新鮮胡蘿蔔片 fresh Carrot slices, and 醃黃瓜 Pickled Cucumber. And the dish also comes with two 黎巴嫩皮塔餅 Lebanese pita bread!
