Thoughts: Established since 1997, 食之秘 Secret Recipe Cakes and Café Sdn Bhd (doing business as Secret Recipe) is a Malaysian halal-certified Café Chain company. As a leading and largest café chain in Malaysia and over 400 Café locations throughout Asia serving Cakes and Fusion foods, it has international branches in Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, China, Brunei, Cambodia, Myanmar, Maldives and Bangladesh.

There are 2 Secret Recipes in USJ; one in USJ10 Taipan and another one in Summit USJ 1 and both have been there probably more than 15 years. In 2014, the USJ1 Summit Mall underwent RM70 million worth of renovation and refurbishment works, which were completed in July 2016. BUT 2016 also saw a new Mall next to Summit USJ, which is Damen Mall with 6 stories of over 280 retail outlet spaces. Despite the 2016 renovation, the slightly "old" but spacious Summit USJ landmark was the first Mall in USJ opened 24 years ago in 1998, was once a favorite USJ residential mall. BUT with Damen as its neighbor and coupled with the last 2 yeas Pandemic, even the Ground Floor of Summit USJ is almost EMPTY!   

Secret Recipe's 康沃爾餡餅 Chicken Cornish at rm8.80, comes in 2 flavors: Original and Spicy. Probably the "Cornish Pasty" is a British baked pastry, a traditional variety of which is particularly associated with 康沃爾 Cornwall, 英格蘭西南部 South West England BUT the history origin is not clear. Like a "Giant Curry Puff" except the contents is usually filled with meats like 牛肉 beef or 雞肉 chicken, vegetables like sliced or diced 土豆 potato, 黃蘿蔔 swede (yellow turnip) and 洋蔥 onion. The pasty is now popular worldwide because of the spread of Cornish miners and sailors from across 康沃爾 Cornwall.
But 食之秘 Secret Recipe is renowned for its extensive range of top quality gourmet cakes. And the rm$11.80 "蝴蝶豌豆檸檬芝士蛋糕 Butterfly Pea Lemon Cheesecake" today was excellent. The aesthetically pleasing cake recipe is Chilled Australian cream cheese infused with candied lemon zest and butterfly blue pea flower with a crust at the bottom.

Thoughts: Very interesting entry in Secret Recipe;s menu: The new durian cake worth trying and an interesting Japanese dessert introduced for some time now. 
The limited offer new Durian Cake cost rm$130 for the whole cake (at 1.6kg), the durian cake is covered with white chocolate drizzle! There are 2 variants, one called "Durian Fromage" and "Absolute Durian" each at rm$11.80/pc (after tax)! I'd say the Durian Fromage is worth sampling. 
Another menu item not that new is the "Shinjuku Bakes" in 4 variants: Maple, Nutella, Caramel, and Chocolate. Sampling today was 新宿枫味烘烤 Shinjuku Maple Bake! Its a warm buttered soft cake drizzled with maple syrup and sprinkles of hazelnut and topped with 2 scoops of cold vanilla ice cream and whipped cream on the side. Very interesting warmly baked cake that seems to go well well the sweet maple syrup and cold ice cream, a rather "explosive" combination.

Thoughts: Secret Recipes's "Tea Time Specials" from 3-6pm offers free Tea Pot with purchase of any of their cakes. The Slice Carrot may not look as appetizing as the Moist Chocolate but for me, the taste win over the later one. 
Secret Recipe has been a prominent tenant at USJ Summit for a long time. This one here at USJ Summit offers much comfortable and spacious seating compared to the shop lot at USJ Taipan.
