Thoughts: At the level 2 of SS16's AEON Big is the Food Court called "Sedap Station Food Court", offering ALL HALAL eateries. For lunch is another Big Breakfast today at "TT Western Cuisine", not better than the Big Breakfast earlier today. This stall looks to have relatively good reviews by Netizens but Ramadhan month is relatively empty at 10+am today.

Thoughts: Laksa promotion from March 2 to March 14 (around 2 weeks) for D'Laksa's Buy 1 Free 1 Laksa for rm$9.90 (which is rm$4.95 per bowl). 

The Laksa chain started in 2012 by a Penangite and to-date, has perhaps around 60 locations across Malaysia (mostly as Kiosk in Malls) including some locations in Sarawak. Among the Laksa variants here are the Asam Laksa, Asam Lobsterball, Asam Fish ball, as well as Fruit Rojak. 

In Malaysia, the earliest variant of laksa is believed to have been introduced by the Peranakan Chinese in Malacca. The name laksa is derived from the word "辣 spicy" and grainy or "沙 sandy" in the 閩語 "Min Chinese" (中國福建 from Fujian in China), which denotes the 辛辣的口感和顆粒感 spicy taste and the grainy texture (either from grinding onion, granules of fish or meat, or curdled coconut milk) of laksa, since the 土生華人 Peranakan Malay is a 克里奧爾語言 Creole language that is heavily influenced by a 閩南語 dialect of Hokkien.

The promotion price of rm$4.95 for the 2 weeks Ramadahan comes with a bowl of Asama Laksa curry broth which isn't that spicy with lots of onions, cucumber, and some mackerel fish meats. Another packet are more cucumber and 生菜 lettuce, and of course the 虾膏 Shrimp Paste that is a must for any Asam Laksa adding that salty, fish and pungent taste to the concoction.

Thoughts: In 2012, the Japanese イオン株式会社 AEON CO Ltd purchased the ailing Malaysian chain of French retailer 家樂福 Carrefour, comprising 26 stores and later renamed all of the stores names as AEON BiG. The Grocer, used to be crowded with market-goers especially in the weekends BUT recent years have seen many small grocers mushroomed as shop lots in all of Subang area shop lots serving as neighborhood grocery stores. However, looks like SS16's AEON Big survived all that and even made it through the Pandemic and recently revamped its ground floor food court area to include the following eateries:

D'Laksa - Asam Laksa, Fruit Rojak

Sushi - Ready-made Sushi varieties as well as Bento

Today's Asam Laksa for lunch; drenched with savory and at the same time sweet and salty 蝦膏酱 shrimp paste (and you can ask for more), the 叻沙麵 Laksa noodle bowl is generously topped with the usual sliced 洋蔥 onions, 高良姜 lengkuas (or I think Galangal ginger), 生菜 lettuce, 菠蘿 pineapples and chunks of 鯖魚塊 mackeral fish in the 經典酸亞參羅望子湯 classic sour Asam tamarind broth; bringing out that slightly sweet salty, but tangy, sour and spicy taste all at the same time at rm$9.90 per bowl (in Singapore D'Laksa charges around SGD$3.50 per bowl)! 

The new kiosk at SS16 AEON Big also offers 水果羅 Fruit Rojak, 魚丸 Fish Ball and 龍蝦丸 Lobster Balls. D'Laksa kiosk is located @ Row 8/9/10 Aeon big grocery counter exit area in SS16's AEON Big. 

For the love of 亞参叻沙 Asam Laksa, a 檳城美食愛好者 Penangite food enthusiast established D' Laksa in 2012. AND by the end of 2022, D'Laksa has 60+ outlets around Malaysia and Singapore with 55 outlets in Malaysia at 10 different states (except Perlis, Sabah and Pahang, I think) as well as 7 outlets in Singapore. Subang Jaya alone offers 2 D'Laksa kiosk: one in Empire Shopping Gallery and this one in AEOB Big, both in SS16. AND not too far from SS16, there is also another D'Laksa kiosk located in Bandar Sunway's Sunway Pyramid Mall!

The exact origin of the 亞参叻沙 Asam Laksa unknown, but it is believed that it has originated in the coastal areas of Malaysia among the local fishermen who assembled the dish out of available  ingredients. Coupled with the unique Laksa style noodle in a broth that is made with fresh 鯖魚 mackerel fish from the sea plus its main distinguishing feature is the Asam or 羅望子 Tamarind as well ag 蝦膏酱 shrimp paste (or the Hookies called it "Hay-Koe"), which gives the soup a sour, spicy and appetizing taste. Through history, the dish evolved into 亞参叻沙 Assam Laksa (or Asam Laksa) that we know today. This dish is especially popular in Penang Island and some even goes to say that the Penang Assam Laksa is the creation of the 峇峇娘惹 Peranakan Chinese-Malay Culture. The popularity and 旨味 umami of the dish precedes is appearance AS the 檳城亞参叻沙 Penang's Asam laksa did earned a proud spot of #7 place in "The World's 50 Best Foods" by CNN in 2020, and even beating Thailand's 冬陰功 Tom Yum Koong!
