Thoughts: Le樂 (Le Cafe) in George Town, Penang is a cozy spot on Jalan Gurdwara known for its creative, savoury, thick-stuffed toast and sandwiches. It operates as a cafe and mini-bakery offering items like 烤培根 Toast Bacon, 明太子蟹肉 Mentaiko Crab, and 咖椰吐司配鹹奶油 Kaya toast with salted butter. Last visit here was February 23.2024. 

Today's first breakfast before visiting Hin Bus Depot is a rm$18 "泰式豬肉三文治 Thai Pork Sandwich" which comes with 2 slices of white bread toast "thickly" sandwiched with 4 layers of 番茄片 tomato slices + 炒蛋 scrambled egg + 泰式豬肉 thai style pork + 生菜 lettuce cut into half.

The 3rd location is at Puchong Bandar Puteri (opened in December.2024). 

AND it is almost 2 years since last visit to the 香港式茶餐廳 Hong Kong style Cafe and for brunch is their signature rm$5.90 "菠蘿油 Polo Bun w/Butter", freshly baked with the usual crispy crust and a butter inside. The ALL new menu offers 8 choices of breakfast set with drinks from rm$13.90 to rm$20.90 valid daily from 08:00am to 12 noon. Choice for brunch just before the order closes at noon is rm$17.90 "午餐肉煎蛋吐司配香港奶茶 Luncheon Meat & Egg Toast with Hong Kong Milk Tea"; it is a light toast sandwiched with fried egg and luncheon meats, and the Hong Kong Milk Tea was nostalgic. 

It is interesting to note that 午餐肉 luncheon meat, like SPAM, gained popularity in the US during the 大蕭條時期 Great Depression as a 在美國作為一種經濟實惠的食物 cost-effective food source created in America. The processed food was first introduced in 1937 by 荷美爾食品公司 Hormel Foods as a way to sell 豬肩肉 pork shoulder, which was then an 豬身上無利可圖的部位 unprofitable part of the pig. It also became 第二次世界大戰期間美國軍隊的主食 a staple for American troops during World War II and remains popular in many parts of the world, especially in areas where soldiers were stationed. The history of luncheon meat is closely tied to the development of the 罐頭食品產業 canned food industry and its role in feeding large populations, particularly 衝突和經濟困難時期 during times of conflict and economic hardship. 

The 午餐肉 Luncheon meat, now widely known as SPAM, was named by a contest winner named Ken Daigneau, who suggested the name was a portmanteau of "五香火腿 Spiced Ham". While other theories exist, the official explanation from 荷美爾食品公司 Hormel Foods is that it is a combination of "五香火腿 Spiced Ham". While the "五香火腿 Spiced Ham" explanation is the most widely accepted and official explanation, other theories have emerged, such as an acronym for "Shoulders of Pork and Ham" or "Specially Processed American Meat," but these are not officially endorsed.  

Not sure where the Cafe get its Egg Tart (or is it Home Made), but for the price of rm$2.90 per Egg Tart is probably the cheapest in town, but still not too bad with its soft flaky crust and not that sweet custards. AND definitely cheaper compared to the rm$4.50 Egg Tart for Breakfast at 南香雞飯 Nam Heong yesterday morning. PLUS maybe comparable to Egg Tart by 棠記兄弟餅家 Tong Kee Brothers which also costs around rm$4.50 per Egg Tart (which more than doubled its price from less than rm$1.80 around year 2005).
