Thoughts: In Japan, 蒲鉾 Kamaboko (かまぼこ) is a type of 治癒魚糜 cured surimi, a 加工海鮮產品 processed seafood product common in Japanese cuisine. Red-skinned and white kamaboko are typically served at celebratory and holiday meals, as red and white are considered to bring good luck for the Japanese society; and many years ago while in Japan, I have tried it and it has a mild and sweet taste and does not taste fishy but similar to imitation crab meat (something like the crab sticks we have in Malaysia). 

BUT a variant of it often appear as the チーズ蒲鉾 Cheese Kamaboko (cheese plus kamaboko) is commonly found in Convenience Stores all over Japan. It is like a fish cake with a cheesy taste to it (as the fish cake "sausages" are infused with cheese bits! 

蒲鉾 Cheese Kamaboko with 芥末 Wasabi can be a good choice as a Beer bite (or Sake) or in Japanese "Otsumami (おつまみ)", something not that common in Klang Valley compared to fried or grilled items like Yakitori! BUT today, I have have the "Japanese Cheesy Fish Cake Sausage" with a Cold Japanese Black Coffee in a Bottle! Not the healthiest snack choice but enjoyed it.

Thoughts: In Japan, the Discount store chain Don Don Donki (in short DONKI ドンキ) is called "Don Quijote Co. Ltd 株式会社ドン・キホーテ". Don Quijote tends to keep very late hours for Japanese retailing (to 3 or 5am, or even 24 hours) and it packs its goods from ceiling to floor in a distinct merchandising strategy. Don Quijote opened its first store in 杉並區 Suginami, 東京 Tokyo in September 1980 under its original name and its first overseas operation is the 檀香山 Honolulu-based Don Quijo in 夏威夷 Hawaii which opened sometime in July of 2017 (in the same year where it also expanded its first operation to 東南亞 South East Asia). By the end of 2022, DONKI has over 160 locations throughout 日本 Japan, 3 in 夏威夷 Hawaii, 15 in 新加坡 Singapore, 6 in 泰國 Thailand, 9 in 香港 Hong Kong, 2 in 台灣 Taiwan, 3 in 馬來西亞 Malaysia, and 1 in 澳門 Macau and coming soon in 關島 Guam. As for Malaysia, it was about 2 years ago with the first Malaysia DONKI opened at KL's Lot 10.

After the slightly expensive Sushi lunch at DONKI's 鮮選壽司 Sen Sen Sushi, next is to try out some affordable Japanese food at DONKI. For some solid food it is a rm$11.90 "日式炸雞(唐揚げ)和玉子燒 Chicken Karaage and Tamagoyaki", comes with 3 pcs of 唐揚げ Karaage (日式炸雞 Japanese fried chicken) and 2 large cuts of 玉子燒 Tamagoyaki! Just like any food retail store, customer pick-up the readily pack Japanese food, snacks, or drinks; BUT here at DONKI after the EXIT, there is also a self-service Dine-in area with 30+ tables equipped with self-service plastics cutleries and microwave oven. The highchair wall table area also offers electrical charging pots with 3-pin + USB wall socket points.

Pronounced as ‘ka-RA-AH-geh’, the word 唐揚げ Karaage refers to a Japanese cooking technique in which an ingredient is lightly coated with flour and deep-fried in oil. Come in bite-size nuggets, Karaage is a classic dish you can find at any Japanese home, 便當飯盒 bento lunch box, street-side stalls, restaurants, and even convenience stores in Japan. 

In Japanese, "Tamago" means "蛋 Egg" and "yaki" means "燒/烤 Grill", and therefore "Tamagoyaki" literally translates to "燒/烤蛋 Grilled egg" OR in Japanese, "玉子燒 pronounced as Tamagoyaki". This is a Japanese dish where eggs are thinly cooked and rolled; probably a dish that was born in the 17th and 18th centuries BUT only became popular in the 1950s when the government started to encourage parents to give more protein to their children, and the farmers started to keep more chickens.

Beer in Japan mostly comes from the country's four major breweries, 朝日 Asahi, 麒麟 Kirin, 札幌 Sapporo and 三得利 Suntory, which mainly produce pale lagers around 5% ABV. BUT I believe all of them also produces Bottled or Canned Coffees. Today's coffee in a bottle is a rm$10.90 "三得利老闆融化牛奶咖啡 Suntory Boss melting cafe au lait". With a 30 years history, BOSS (ボス, Bosu) is a brand name of canned and plastic bottled coffee and coffee-flavored beverages sold by 三得利 Suntory in Japan. BOSS is the No.1 Coffee-in-a-Can and the most popular canned coffee brand in Japan. You probably can find BOSS coffee cans (warm or chilled) in vending machines all over Japan!

The popular Japan's biggest discount retail chain 情熱 JONETZ by DON DON DONKI ("ドンキ" also known as 唐吉訶德 Don Quijote) has officially opened their 3rd outlet 2 months ago, somewhere in November 1, 2022. This huge chain store with its iconic, adorable 藍企鵝吉祥物 blue penguin mascot has over 160 stores across Japan, all of which are stocked with shelves and shelves of 日本零食 Japanese snacks, wide-variety of 食品 food items, 服裝 clothing, 雜貨 groceries, 美容產品 beauty products, 服裝 clothing, and 各種商品 all sorts of merchandise! However, I believe the 雙威金字塔 Sunway Pyramid location only offer Japanese food, drinks, snacks, and some cooking items. 

Pan Pacific Retail is the Malaysian retail division of Japanese company Pan Pacific International Holdings, it plans to open 11 new outlets by 2024. As of 2022, it has over 160 locations throughout 日本 Japan, 15 in 新加坡 Singapore, 9 in 香港 Hong Kong, 6 in 泰國 Thailand, 3 in 夏威夷 Hawaii and 馬來西亞 Malaysia, 2 in 台灣 Taiwan, and 1 in 澳門 Macau and 關島 Guam.

From 新鮮生魚片 fresh sashimi to 和牛牛肉 wagyu beef slices, 日本進口水果 fruits imported from Japan, a good variety of 日本進口拉麵 ramen, 日本小吃 Japanese snacks and 甜點 desserts (including a whole shelf dedicated to different flavors of "Kitkat"), as well as a large selection of 包裝食品 packed food items (freshly cooked); unfortunately only a limited choice of 日本啤酒 Japanese Beer and 精釀啤酒 Craft Beers are available BUT fortunately quite an extensive choice of 日本飲料 Japanese beverages on the shelf. Besides takeaway, customer can also dine-in at the FOOD retail where there is a Cafeteria seating area just after the Exit counter. JONETZ by DON DON DONKI @ Sunway Pyramid also bringing in 鮮選寿司 Sen Sen Sushi (Sushi and Sashimi) and 富田精米 Tomita Seimai (premium Japanese rice specialist store) to Malaysia.

As seen today at the Sunway Pyramid store, only limited Japanese beers are available; namely only "朝日啤酒 Super Dry Asahi" in 320ml can drinks as well as craft beers by 黄桜 Kizakura Brewery. In stock craft beers priced at rm$27.90 per bottle are Kizakura Brewery's Lucky Brew brands series such as the "Lucky Cat 黄桜ラッキーキャット", "Lucky Dog 黄桜ラッキードッグ", and "Lucky Chicken 黄桜ラッキーチキン" as well as "京都麥酒 Kyoto wheat beer". With approximately 500 domestic microbreweries, 黄桜 Kizakura may not be the top 10 craft beer brewery but it is still one of the largest 清酒 Sake companies in Japan. AND don't think I notice any Sake offerings at the Sunway Pyramid location. 

Similar to the KL Lot 10 and PJ Kota Damansara's Tropicana Garden location, the Sunway Pyramid location also offers irresistible 和牛串 Wagyu skewers at rm$16 to rm$50 per stick! The kiosk can be found at the entrance of all the 3 locations. Don Don Donki’s 充分利用和牛 Wagyu Kushi are made from 100% Japanese beef and these soft juicy Wagyu skewers are specially brought in from the 鹿兒島縣 Kagoshima prefecture in 日本 Japan! 鹿兒島和牛 Kagoshima Wagyu are known for their balanced marbling and tenderness, all thanks to the copious amounts of sun, and natural surroundings that the 鹿兒島黑牛 Kagoshima black cattle are blessed with.

JONETZ by DON DON DONKI @ Sunway Pyramid is located at top floor of the Sunway Pyramid (Ice Skating Rink) where the section was previously the Digital Center for many years. With the Japanese Retail taken over that area, some of the digital shops are now relocated to the food court area next it. The Sunway location operates daily until mid-night while the KL Lot 10 location closes at 2am everyday!
