Thoughts: Had 猪肠粉(中) Chee Cheong Fun & 皮蛋瘦肉粥 Preserved egg & Lean pork Porridge at 裔記 Yi Kee last week Friday morning. Today, I am having 生鱼粥 Raw Fish Porridge & 猪肠粉 Chee Cheong Fun at China Town again but next door at 汉记靓粥 Hon Kee!
Last visit to Hon Kee was Dec.08 2016 where I had the 鱼粥 Cooked Fish Porridge at $6.50 which is already cooked for you. Today's 生鱼粥 comes with a plate of raw fish and one has do pour in the porridge and depends on whether you want them to dip how long inside the porridge before you savor the half-cooked or well-cooked fish. The porridge is very hot and it will cook the raw fish if you leave them in the porridge for a little longer! It is definitely a very nice morning breakfast.
汉记靓粥 Hon Kee started the porridge stall at KL China Town in 1949 while 裔記 Yi Kee in 1945. Selling porridge side by side at Jalan Hang Lekir of KL's Petaling Street, these guys have been rivals for almost 70 years!
Some say 汉记靓粥 Hon Kee's Porridge is better and others say otherwise. Some even say both their 猪肠粉 Chee Cheong Fun are nothing great. But I'd say I like them both, they bring a long memories when I was schooling in KL in the 70s, when China Town was really a place of Chinese people, Chinese shops, hawkers, and
