英國式下午茶 English High Tea for 2 $58 (Fav) Original $90
Review: 6 / 10 👍😋
Thoughts: Expensive $58 for 2 person, but you get the following:
. 4 macarons
. 4 salmon sandwich rolls
. 4 eggroll sandwich
. 2 muschroom quinches
. 2 english cookies
. 2 curry puffs
. 2 scones
. 2 chocolate opera cake
. 2 mini fruit tart
. salad
. coffee/tea (pot)/juice
There are all "Tiny" portions, I would still think that it is not too bad. At least to try once! There is a certain ambience to the Piano Lounge. It is not overly crowded; in fact, I think only 2 tables are having the High Tea.
Parking here is $6 per hour, I suggest to try MPSJ parking spots opposite the hotel or just behind the residential areas.
It is called the "Piano Lounge", but where is the Piano; and there wasn't any music at all throughout the 1.5 hours there! Dorsett also offers Buffet lunch as well as Buffet Dinner at Terazza Brasserie. However, after the High Tea; took a short tour to Terazza Brasserie to see what the Lunch Buffet offers, I see more of local cuisines and the choice is also limited. Buffet price is $88++ per person.
"High Tea" really does not mean "High" class Tea; for English speaking people, High Tea is just Afternoon Tea. But there is a distinction between Afternoon Tea and High Tea as well! Afternoon tea is a British food tradition of sitting down for an afternoon treat of tea, sandwiches, scones and cake, and the Afternoon tea is served around 4 p.m. The origins of afternoon tea did show clearly it was the preserve of the rich in the 19th century; but of course today it is not so in England. For workers in the newly industrialized Britain of the early 20th century, tea time had to wait until after work. By that hour, tea was generally served with heartier dishes which were substantially more than just tea and cakes. Workers needed sustenance after a day of hard labor, so the after-work meal was more often hot and filling and accompanied by a pot of good, strong tea to revive flagging spirits.
The addition of the word "high" to the phrase "high tea" is believed to differentiate between the afternoon tea that is traditionally served on low, comfortable, parlor chairs or relaxing in the garden and the worker’s after-work high tea that is served at the table and seated on high back dining chairs.
In summary, I conclude that Afternoon Tea is maybe 3-5pm and High Tea (Later Afternoon Tea) is from 5-6pm++. Maybe Afternoon Tea is for people who are relaxing with some finger food and tea socializing with friends, While High Tea is for working people who just finish work and who wants to have a very "Late Afternoon Tea" with slightly more food than just the Afternoon Tea's finger food after a hard days work.
