Thoughts: The location of this speakeasy bar was a little misleading via google map, waze brought us nearer to "Madam Wong". So, along Jalan Raja Ekram north bound until just before Jalan Sultan Idris Shah; on the ride side of the Ekram road, once you reach a Saloon (Hair@Tatoo Color etc), look for a red neon sign with the word "凰" (Huáng), go into the alley which brings you to the inner compound. Go to the end, on your left is an entrance with a stair case up, the immediate upper floor is the toilet, further up a few steps is the 凤凰楼 "Madam Wong hidden bar". The website said that it is located on the site of the former SOS club.
At the entrance, you are greeted with several Chinese Terracotta status. The hidden bar is with a Oriental theatre like setting with the centre stage again with the neon lighted "凰" as well as the band area. There is a full-bar-area with draft beer, cocktails, and moctails. Unfortunately, no band playing tonight (Thursday), and the bar was EMPTY! (its facebook page did mention Wednesdays and Fridays will have Live Band Music).
Ordered the 龙的心 "Dragon Heart" which was a cocktail with mix of coconut, gin, and grapefruit; not entirely a nice cocktail mix! But still, glad to have experience at least one of the speakeasy bars in Ipoh. Till next time.
