Budget: MYR$15-$20/person (including drinks)
Cuisine: Food (Dai Chao)
Highlights: until 2am
Parking: Ipoh City Council
Thoughts: Next to Lou Wong and Ong Kee bean sprout chicken rice; another "must eat" restaurant in Ipoh is "德记茶餐室 Restoran Tuck Kee". There are 2 here of the same name, the other is called "新德记茶餐室 Restoran New Tuck Kee" (I think one opened by the father and the new one his son! the story behind no interest at this moment). The restaurant only opens for dinner and supper (all the way to 2am).
Must try here is the 月光河 Yu Kong Hor & 八爪鱼 Baby Octopus in Soy Sauce. (You would need to forget about colesterol for awhile). The 八爪鱼 Baby Octopus in Soy Sauce came with fried chopped garlic plus green chopped onions, also came with a dipping of chili sauce with grind peanuts (excellent combinations). The other dish I really enjoyed was the 滑蛋鱼面 Wat Dan Yue Mian where the noodle is practically fish fried using cantonese style, must try if I were to visit again.
The interior of the main shops are all packed by 6pm, but make-shift tables are available along the other shop veranda. Here, at Tuck Kee, it is packed everyday. The menu is 1-page with 10 main dishes and 5 side orders; from ordering to food delivery to the table is about 15-20+ minutes even on peak hours.
Delighted to have a chance to eat at 德记 Tuck Kee, 果然名不虚传!
Rating: 8 / 10 👍👍👍😋😋😋
