Thoughts: Located south of Ipoh (5km from Ipoh City Centre), Sam Poh Tong is a popular visit when in Ipoh, located at Gunung Rapat.
The story goes that the cave was discovered by a monk from China who then lived in the cave for 20 years until his death! The construction of the cave temple was right before World War I in 1912.
The exterior of the temple houses an ornamental garden that was awarded the best landscape garden in Malaysia in 1993 (when the garden was well maintained at its prime).
Once inside the 1st cave temple, the main altar area houses a few Buddha and Deities status. Beyond the altar area via a cave passage way which leads to the opening of the cave where it houses a secluded garden with more Buddha status, a turtle pond, and a Pagoda building. As this inner cave area is surrounded by cliffs, and the Pagoda temple is locked and seemed barred from entering; the whole place feel eerie. But it is a photogenic spot with a wide angle and a tripod plus the correct sunlight will make a great photograph.
