Thoughts: Left early around 6:00am on MRT from Prince Edward to Shek Kip Mei to hunt for breakfast as well as to wonder around 石硤尾. 6am this time of the year is already very bright in Hong Kong and the Tropical Cyclone season is around the corner. Lucky this week has been good but very hot weather in Hong Kong.
石硤尾 Shek Kip Mei Estate is the first public housing estate in Hong Kong.It is located in Sham Shui Po and is under the management of the Hong Kong Housing Authority. The estate was constructed as a result of a fire in Shek Kip Mei in 1953, to settle the families of inhabitants in the squats over the hill who lost their homes in one night.
It is only a short distance from the MRT exit to the local Market and restaurants. I think it is unlikely destination a tourist will visit, most restaurant goers are very "local" residents either on-the-way to work, retirees, or home-makers!
I walked around the neighborhood quite abit before I decided to stop by for breakfast in a restaurant called 翡翠餐厅 on 南昌街 Nam Cheong Street. My breakfast was 米粉 "meehoon" noodles with 3 things (煎蛋 Fried Egg +鲍鱼片 Abalone Slice + 榨菜肉片 Sichuan Vegetable Minced Meat), plus Hong Kong Milk Tea. I would wish we can find such restaurants on the streets of KL which can offer such kinds of variety of breakfast!
