Thoughts: It is advertised as "Petaling Street Hokkien Mee" or 茨厂街福建面 (I assume that is their shop name): the Supervisor (Ah Meng) claims that he is the relative to Petaling Streets "Kim Lian Kee" (ie: the famous 金莲记 Hokkien Mee restaurant in KL China Town)! Ah Meng also warn everyone who came here for "Take-away" or "Eating-in" that if they can wait and if not to go away. The kopitiam for the night "Dai Chau" only offers maybe 6-8 small tables for eating-in, they are many who were waiting for their take-away orders. Waiting time is 30-45 minutes or more!
Their Signature Hokkien Mee was very flavourful and lots of pork lard; customers can also ask for more free pork lard. I would say, this one in SS14 is one of the best I have tasted in Subang Jaya (have not tried them all). One of the customer who was waiting for his Ta-pao has full of praise for their Hokkien Mee, he drove all the way from Klang to Tao Pao and also recommended their "Sang Har Mee". Apparently, to savour KL style Hokkien Mee, one has to wait for short while when the plate arrive on the table so that the darksauce get soaked into the fat noodle! But not too long as it will turn dry.
KL style Hokkien Mee may not be the cup of tea for some as the presentation is greasy with soggy big fat noodles (some shops noodles come with disgusting taste of 碱水 "Gan Sui"); the noodle also with that distinctly sweet and bitterly dark sauce taste (depending on how well balanced the chef does it)! Hokkien Mee, I think is somewhat an acquired taste that may not fit the palates of every Malaysian. It is either something you really like or not at all!
