Food Thoughts: Kacang Phool or Kacang Pool is a dish popular in Johor Bahru, some say it originates from Singapore! But according to Wikipedia, it's a middle eastern in origin using Egyptian peas and known as Foul Medammas (pronounced as Fool Meh-dah-mez) which I have tried it many times while in Bahrain. It originated from Egypt but is widely eaten as a breakfast item in Lebanon (with added chickpeas), Arab, Ethopia and other countires in the middles east. Sometimes topped with egg as well.
The peas are cooked with minced beef, topped with a sunny side and served with thick garlic toast! Although it looks like an appetizer but quite filling with the thick toast.
