Uncle Soon Fried Rice originally operates as a hawker stall in SS15's "和和茶餐室 Restoran Foh Foh" and just only last year October 2021 that it moved to Subang Square which is just opposite 和和 Foh Foh. So, this hawker stall (now occupying shop lot in Subang Square) really offers only ONE dish, which is "Fried Rice" and when it comes to Subang folks craving for a plate of fried rice, "Uncle Soon Fried Rice" comes to mind.
Uncle Soon offers Fried Rice with a fried side, and option for charsiew and/or prawns combinations. Customer can also opt for sizes (small, big, and extra big plate) and either non-spicy or spicy version; from the basic size small "(原味)蛋飯&蛋 Original Egg Fried Rice & Egg" at rm$6.50 to the size large "(辣味)叉燒+蝦炒飯&蛋 Spicy Charsiew+Prawn Fried Rice & Egg" rm$13. Mine is the set C non-spicy where the rice is fried with 蛋 egg plus 叉燒 charsiew + 3 "good size" 蝦 prawns, topped with a 荷包蛋 fried (poached/sunny side) egg, and on the side a small plate of 自製參巴醬 home-made sambal chili that gives a good kick to the fried rice; I'd say the fried rice was prepared with good 鍋氣 wok hei and although not bad BUT perhaps just a little overrated for the hype!
No table service here, customer go directly to the counter next to the kitchen, choose the variant from a 1 page menu and after payment, gets a number, find a table either outdoors or indoors, and wait for the fried rice. There are at least 5 foreign workers busy in the open kitchen at the back continuously preparing plates of fried rice like an assembly line! Not sure if the the signature Uncle Soon fried rice prepared by the foreign workers are any similar to those fried by Uncle Soon himself as I did not have the opportunity to try the original versions.
The "Uncle Soon Fried Rice" brand locations are now run by the founders daughter Miss Shian. Uncle Soon Fried Rice was originally from Alor Setar, where Shian's parents were born and raised. Shian's parents have been working as hawker chefs since there were 22 and 23 years old respectively. The couple started this fried rice business together in 1990 before they got married, and continued operating for 16 years in 亞羅士打 Alor Setar. The Soon family later moved to 雪蘭莪 Selangor in 2007, where Uncle Soon and his wife began life as a hawker stall in My Friend’s Cafe SS15 before moving to 桂生餐館 Kwai Sun, and finally 和和茶餐室 Restaurant Foh Foh SS15 in 2014. AND it is only in 9 October.2021 that Miss Shian decided to move into their own shop at SS15's Subang Square AND in the past 2 years during Covid-19 period, expanded into at least 7 other locations across 巴生谷 Klang Valley + 1 in 芙蓉 Seremban, all of them as hawker stalls inside Chinese Kopitiams or Food Court!
