黑胡椒蘑菇漢堡套餐配卷曲薯条和根啤酒 Black pepper mushroom Chicken Burger Combo w/Curly Fries and Root Beer rm$13.50 👍👍😋😋 7/10
Topped up 冰淇淋 Ice Cream float rm$2.40 👍😋 6/10
Total bill: rm$15.90
Budget: rm$15 - rm$20+
Payment: Cash or Credit Card, Fave
Cuisine: Fast Food
Highlights: Halal, Retro-Interior
Parking: MBPJ or Mall Parking (rm$1/hour)
Thoughts: With lots of lettuce, a mixture of mushroom and chicken burger drowned with not too spicy but slightly salty black pepper sauce inside a burger bun, the rm$13.50 is not bad and the combo does come with curly fries (albeit a little soggy) as well as a Root Beer and for rm$2.40, you can top up with an ice cream float. Not a bad combination, and quite satisfying.

This A&W in Seventeen Mall (PJ's Seksyen 17) does take you down on a trip to memory lane with its ambiance of the 60s and 70s. This one in Seventeen Mall is A&W's 49th in the country and the first one-of-a-kind Retro design in Malaysia; decorated with bar seats, Instagrammable booths, and even a juke-box.
A&W PJ Seventeen Mall, after the MCO; isn't that much alive with many eateries closed for good and many shops vacant at the 2nd floor with Super Saigon (Vietnamese), a 麻辣面 Malak noodle shop, and mr DIY still standing today. At its ground floor, AEON supermarket is still around, with a "high end" Cafe called "Superfine Cafe", and "Malacca Street" that offers Nyonya Food, and of course the new A&W debut in PJ's Seventeen Mall right after RMCO somewhere in July this year and in the same month, a similar retro-themed A&W outlet also openend in Ipoh Parade.
If you grew in in Klang Valley in the 60s, you will not find KFC, Burger King, nor McDonalds. As the first KFC restaurant was opened in 1973 on Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahma, and only 10 years after that McDonalds's debut in 29 April 1982 at Jalan Bukit Bintang; while Burger Kings made came into Malaysia in 1997 with the opening of its first restaurant at Sungai Buloh Overhead Bridge. Interesting to note that first A&W was opened in Malaysia in 1963 in Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, and A&W is probably the first ever American Fast Food brand that landed in Malaysia! And even the first Drive-in restaurant is also A&W which is the 2nd A&W opened in 1965 and located in Petaling Jaya (next to Shah's Motel or AmCorp Mall). After over 55 years of operations, that iconic A&W drive-through restaurant on Lorong Sultan in Petaling Jaya will finally shut in the coming months by the end of this year; as for now it is still open for business but maybe not for too long as December is around the corner.
