Thoughts: The 佛牙寺 Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum or (the long name as "新加坡佛牙寺龍華院"), completed in 2007; is a Buddhist temple and museum complex located in the 新加坡唐人街區 Chinatown district of Singapore.
The temple was built based on the 中國唐代佛教建築風格建造 Chinese Buddhist architectural style of the Tang dynasty (as well as incorporating slight 藏傳佛教 Tibetan Buddhist influences in certain rooms) to house the 捨利子 Tooth Relic of the historical 佛陀 Buddha. It is claimed that the 佛陀的捨利子 Relic of Buddha from which it gains its name was found in a 倒塌的佛塔 collapsed stupa (It was claimed that the relic of Buddha was found in 1980 in a collapsed stupa in 緬甸 Myanmar). The relic can be viewed by the public at the 4th floor of the temple (unfortunately I did not realize this at the time of the visit). The basement of the temple holds a theatre and a vegetarian dining hall that serve complimentary meals, though donations are accepted.
This temple's main claim to fame is that it houses one of the tooth of the Lord Buddha, although many temples around the world also make claim to be housing one of the 32 teeth of the Lord Buddha. The size of the tooth measuring 7.5 cm is also far too long for a human tooth (largest human tooth recorded was around 3.5cm+ but the average human tooth is just 0.9cm). It is said that thousands of years after Buddha's death, the tooth, already about four times the length of the average human tooth, is continuing to grow because of what are believed to be its special powers, said Thomas Meier, a 僧人 monk at the 廬山寺 Lu Mountain Temple (in Japan) whose monk name is XianJie.The temple was built based on the 中國唐代佛教建築風格建造 Chinese Buddhist architectural style of the Tang dynasty (as well as incorporating slight 藏傳佛教 Tibetan Buddhist influences in certain rooms) to house the 捨利子 Tooth Relic of the historical 佛陀 Buddha.
