Thoughts: 大人餐廳 Esquire Kitchen has a colorful history that started almost 50 years ago in 1974. The story begins with a group of intellectuals from China (I think maybe Shanghai and Sze Chuan) got together every weekend for intellectual conversations in a bookshop at Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. At these gatherings, this small group of scholars were served with home-cooked food by their wives while enjoying their tea and intellectual discourse. As time went by, these gatherings started to draw in bigger crowd of Chinese intellects. It became evident that the popularity of the meetings were due to the delicious “home-cooked” food that was served! This prompted the group of scholars to start a restaurant that served their home-style 上海 Shanghai and 四川 Sze Chuan food. The 1st Esquire Kitchen Restaurant was then conceptualized in 1974 and opened in one of the earliest mall in Bukit Bintang called "金河廣場 Sungai Wang Plaze" (started operation in 1972). Unfortunately, the restaurant industry has been among the hardest hit during the COVID-19 pandemic; and both the Sungai Wang Plaza and Sunway Velocity branches of Esquire Kitchen are closed.
