Thoughts: The history of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system of Singapore commenced with its planning in the 1960s, which finally led to its opening in 1987 with the launch of the 6 km section of the North South Line from Yio Chu Kang to Toa Payoh (Wikipedia). The only choices of public transport available in Singapore in the early 60s were buses, taxis and trishaws and the lack of seamless connectivity of the public transport system resulted in long and inconvenient journeys. During the 1980ss, the 捷運項目 MRT Project was the largest infrastructure project undertaken by the country during its early days of independence.

As of 2022, it now has six lines in operation with a total combined route length of 231 km (144 mi) and 134 operational stations. The 輕軌交通 Light Rail Transit (LRT) which first opened in 1999 also acts as a feeder service to the MRT network.
There are four different ticketing options available for MRT in Singapore: 標準票 Standard Ticket, EZ-Link, 萬事達卡 MasterCard and 新加坡旅遊通行證 Singapore Tourist Pass. As long as a customer's credit or debit card is "非接觸式 Contactless-enabled", a logo on the front of the card; this means that credit or debit card is enabled for fare payment on transit. Just tap the Contactless credit or debit card at the MRT fare gate or card reader on buses in Singapore. However, EZ-Link card can be another excellent choice which can be purchased in any MRT stations in Singapore for SGD$10 (with SGD$5 value in the Card for travels). In is also interesting to note that in Malaysia, this card can be used to pay for highway tolls, checkpoint toll charges, parking fees, bus fare, MRT fees as well as retail and dining acceptance points.
