Thoughts: Customers come here for Wine-take-aways or Wine-and-Dine at the 2-shop-lot Wine shop simply called "The Wine Shop". OFFERING a grand wine list paired with an exciting food menu (as sampled today); The Wine Shop (or TWS by the locals) has established itself as one of the most vibrant wine bars in Penang Island. Not just a variety of Wine choices (said to be over 900 wine labels from all over the world), but also sweet and savory Western cuisines; probably to pair with the Wine choices. This evenings "韋克菲爾德梅洛葡萄酒 Wakefield Merlot Wine 2021" is rm$80 (probably one of the cheapest choices at the shop!) BUT more exotic Wine selections of up to rm$4000 can be found here!
Established in 2001, The Wine Shop Penang can be considered one of the most successful wine bar and retail outlet in Penang. The primary business of "The Wine Shop" Penang is to operate as a Retail & Wholesale shop that provides wines from all over the world for both private and corporate events, and one of the leading suppliers of wine to hotels, restaurants and events in Penang. While it started as one of the primary Wine Retailer/Wholesaler in Penang for at least 12 years ago; the maiden shop that offers both Food and Wine probably started on or before March 2016 at Pulau Tikus and the 3rd shop is this one at Bayan Lepas (maybe 5 years ago in 2018)!
According to experts on about pairing Cheese with Wine that "Cheese - which is customarily high in fat — coats the mouth and blocks taste receptors to beverages. The acidity and sweetness of a well-paired wine cut through this creamy barrier to unlock a fuller flavor on the palate and create an excellent mouthfeel." No idea about that BUT the shop offers 2 choices of Platter: the cheaper "奶酪拼盤 The Cheese Platter" at rm$34 (medium) to the more exotic "開胃奶酪拼盤 Antipasto Platter" at rm$114 with cold/cured meats + vege picks and bread. Tonight's rm$34 "奶酪拼盤 The Cheese Platter" is a platter that comes with 3 basic cheese choices plus crackers and some dried fruit picks.
While cheese probably goes well with White Wine (maybe not today's Red Wine); Roasted Pork however, is extremely versatile and goes with either Red or White Wine; as exemplified by the rm$34 Umai "燒肉 Roasted Pork" which was told is of 伊比利亞豬肉 Iberico Pork!
