爪哇麵 Jawa Mee or Mee Jawa is one of Malaysians favorite noodle dish, with 黃麵 yellow egg noodles serve with 馬鈴薯 soft steamed potato cubes, 薄脆 crispy fritters, 炸豆腐乾片 fried beancurd slice and generous amount of 土豆甜湯 sweet potato soup, along with 芽菜 bean sprouts, 生菜 lettuce, and lastly with 红辣椒/青辣椒 red/green chilies, 炸蔥 fried shallots, and a 煮雞蛋 boiled egg as the final topping; and not forgetting some 桔子 lime (cut half 切半) and 峇拉煎 belachan on the side for extra tangy and spicy flavors. 

It can be quite confusing when it comes with Mee Rebus, Mee Jawa, and even Mee Rojak:

Mee Rebus - broth like spicier curry gravy, usually with meat (beef)

Mee Jawa - thick Sweet Potato gravy sauce, usually no meat

Mee Rojak - not soupy Sweet Peanut sauce, vegetarian but may add sotong slices 

檳城爪哇麵 Penang Jawa Mee was believed to have been introduced by the 印尼爪哇 Indonesian Java or 米南加保 Minangkabau community when they settled in Penang or the 爪哇土生華人料理 Java Peranakan cooking. The main secret to this dish and differentiation to other noodle dishes is in the thick sweet gravy that is basically made from 红薯味 boiled sweet potatoes, 番茄醬 tomato paste and 蝦 shrimp or 排骨湯底 pork rib stock; resulting in a thick concoction with the natural sweet gravy plus the prawn or pork rib stock as another layer of taste! Unfortunately, today's Jawa Mee did not come with that type of complex flavors!
