Thoughts: SS18's "KUEH Cafe" is an offshoot of the "KUEH CAFE" in Shah Alam, predominantly offering a variety of Malay Kueh as well as local favorites like Nasi Lemak, Roti Jala etc plus western Coffee and Tea.
Of course the rm$5 "迷你巴甫洛娃蛋糕 Mini Pavlova" is not a Malay cuisine but rather a dessert perhaps of 澳大利亞 Australia and 新西蘭 New Zealand origin (according to Wikipedia that this is one version of the origin of the dessert). For me it was a super sweet dessert, which has a 脆皮 crisp crust and soft, light inside, usually topped with 水果 fruit and 摜奶油 whipped cream. The dessert is believed to have been created in honor of a 俄羅斯舞者 Russian dancer "pævˈloʊvə" either during or after one of her tours to Australia and New Zealand in the 1920s. "The pav (or 巴甫洛娃蛋糕 Pavlova)" is a popular "夏季菜 Summer dish" and an important part of the 國家代表食物 national cuisines of both 澳大利亞 Australia and 新西蘭 New Zealand, and is frequently served during 慶祝 celebratory and 和節日餐 holiday meals like the 聖誕節 Christmas. Fun Facts: "Kueh" are bite-sized snacks or dessert foods commonly found in 東南亞 Southeast Asia namely 馬來西亞 Malaysia, 文萊 Brunei, 新加坡 Singapore and 印度尼西亞 Indonesia ("Kue" in Indonesia). But the word "Kueh" or "Kuih" is probably of Chinese origin, and very likely derived from the Hokkien word of "粿" which is pronounced as "Kueh". Nevertheless, except for the "traditional Chinese Kueh", most "Kueh" that Malaysians familiar with comes with tastes that are distinctively Malay and Indonesian. BUT unlike the Nasi Lemak or Satay which are more known to the World beyond this part of the South East Asia, the "Kueh" never got too much exposure to the "outside world" so to speak. "Kueh" are usually sweet and soft and can be either 蒸熟 steamed or a 果凍狀的甜點 jelly-like desserts, with 糯米 glutinous rice, 紫薯/木薯 yam, 紅薯 sweet potato, 椰絲 shredded coconut, 西米 sago, 椰糖 palm sugar, etc. or even 班蘭葉 pandan flavored.
"Kueh Cara" is an interesting traditional Malay dessert which comes with 2 variants: the sweet version, as well as the savory version which is called "馬來小咸糕 Kuih cara Berlauk" just like today's rm$3 three piece package. The yellowish cake is made with 麵粉 flour, 鹽 salt, 椰奶 coconut cream, 雞蛋 egg, and 黃色食用色素 yellow food coloring. What goes on top of the savory dessert is a concoction of 炸洋蔥 fried onions, 雞肉碎 minced chicken meats (daging cincang), 咖哩粉 curry powder, and finally topped with more 红辣椒 red chili and some 芹菜 celery leaves (daun sup).
As for SS18's "KUEH Cafe", if you like to sample a good variety of 馬來甜點 Malay desserts, you probably have to be here at the right time or else you will be disappointed with the choices left at the wrong times in the Café. The 莎阿南總部 Shah Alam branch is even a popular spot for "開齋 Buka Puasa" during the 齋月期間 Ramadhan month.
