The origins of the Chinese New Year are steeped in different stories, legends as well as traditions. Today is 農曆正月年初三 - "亦口 Day of the Red Mouth" or interestingly also called "赤狗日" or "狗日 Dog Days"! Legend has it that 赤狗 Chigou is "熛怒之神 the God of Wrath", and those who meet him will definitely bad luck, so the third day of the first lunar month is an 兇日 ominous day, and it is not advisable 不宜外出 to go out. Therefore, on this 3rd day of Chinese New Year, whoever 拜年 goes to visit other on this day may end up in a quarrel and therefore is best to stay at home.
