Thoughts: "碧華樓 Pik wah Restaurant" is Time-honored since the early 1971 and still at Jalan Hang Jebat, offering Chinese cuisines for more than 50 years. The restaurant opened an outlet along Jalan Petaling somewhere in January 2021 last year (during the MCO2.0 period), and is called "碧華樓 Pik Wah Bar & Cafe"!
Thoughts: "碧華樓 Pik wah Restaurant" is Time-honored since the early 1971 and still at Jalan Hang Jebat, offering Chinese cuisines for more than 50 years. The restaurant opened an outlet along Jalan Petaling somewhere in January 2021 last year (during the MCO2.0 period), and is called "碧華樓 Pik Wah Bar & Cafe"!
Besides many Chinese dishes, one of the signature dish of 碧華樓 has always been their 叉燒 Cha Siew. The new 碧華樓 also offers Fusion of East and West, for example 叉燒羊角麵包 Croissant with Char Siew! But today's lunch starts with a rm$11.90 "苦瓜炒麵線 Bitter Gourd Fried Noodle" and ends with an interesting rm$5.90 "瓦煲海南茶 Claypot Hainan Tea". The Hainan Tea boiled using a Claypot comes with an interesting aromatic Hainanese flavor which is creamier, should be a must order when visiting the Café. The fact that a cup the Hainan Tea is brewed in a Claypot and delivered to your table for you to pour into a cup may sound like a "marketing gimmick" but I liked it already and the poured out Hainan Tea was really actually quite good !
The Petaling street branch mainly offers 燒臘 Roasted items including 燒鴨 roast duck, 叉燒 char siew, 燒肉 roasted pork, as well as 白切鸡 "white cut chicken" that goes with noodles or rice; as well as a variety of noodles and rice dishes. Another highly recommended item is "炒豬腸粉 fried chee cheong fun", "葡撻 Portuguese tart", as well as the "Fusion Croissants recipes" and many other small dishes. Certainly worth visiting again, soon!
Fun Facts: "碧華樓 Pik Wah Restaurant" has been in the F&B business in KL for over half a century but surprisingly there wasn't much writings about it in the WEB (as I googled today)! BUT not just at KL's 吉隆坡藍總大廈 MABA House at Jalan Hang Jebat, 碧華樓酒家 Pik Wah was once a popular Chinese Restaurant at PJ Seksyen 14's Jaya Supermarket. And somewhere on or before 2009 when this 1974's one of the first Supermarket in PJ gave way of redevelopment. The tragic 8 May 2009 collapsed of Jaya Supermarket while being torn down for redevelopment killed at least 7 Indonesian construction workers which a later probe concluded that it was a mistakes in the demolition process!KL Jalan Hang Jebat's 碧華樓 Pik Wah Bar offers "real" Chinese dishes although with the "high end pricing" is a popular spot especially for "Older Chinese folks" who prefer the classic dishes and less of the fusion cooking styles. The "東坡肉 Dong Po Yoke or Braised Pork Belly" along with "饅頭 Mantou Steamed Buns" and "客家釀海參 Hakka brewed cucumbers" are just a myriad of their popular dishes according their 鐵粉 regular fans to the restaurant. These 2 dishes alone will probably set you back rm$300 or more. Despite the high price tags, the restaurant is also a popular dining destination for 公司收工餐 and 開工餐 (Company year end dinner and first company dinner after the Chinese new year), as well as a "Prosperity meal of " 撈起魚生 "Lou Sang/Yee Sang" for the Chinese Business People.
The new venture of 碧華樓 Pik Wah as a "Bar & Cafe" on Petaling Street, and just a stone throw from "鬼仔巷 Guai Zai Hong" is probably strategic, especially for tourist and younger generations with their fusion food of traditional and modern interpretations of the Chinese cuisine. Being at a corner pre-war shopping house in KL China Town, next to it is an alley with beautifully crafted graffiti. The morning session ends at 3:30pm on weekdays and 04:30pm on weekends BUT not too sure if "Bar & Cafe" opens for evening session. In my opinion, the open space graffiti alley is a great spot for outdoor beer session with 碧華樓 Pik Wah's signature 叉燒 Charsiew, 燒鴨 Roasted duck, or 燒肉 Siew Yoke in the evenings!
