The idea of the 大早餐 "Big Breakfast" or it is most definitely a Western Origin, it is also referred to as "Full Breakfast". The "Full Breakfast" is said to date back to the 13th Century in England, which is now considered a National Dish and often also called as "全套英式早餐 English Full Breakfast". In the 古老的盎格魯-撒克遜傳統 old Anglo-Saxon tradition of hospitality, households would provide hearty breakfasts for visiting friends, relatives and neighbors. The "Full Breakfast" often served in 英國 United Kingdom and 愛爾蘭 Ireland, typically includes 培根 bacon, 香腸 sausages, 雞蛋 eggs, 黑布丁 black pudding, 烤豆 baked beans, 西紅柿 tomatoes, 蘑菇 mushrooms, 吐司 toast, and a beverage such as 咖啡 coffee or 或茶 tea.
It is so popular in Great Britain and Ireland that many Cafes and even Pubs offer the meal at any time of day as an "全天早餐 all-day breakfast". When Great Britain's' 殖民化 colonization of many of countries in the East (now 英聯邦國家 Commonwealth nations), this "Full or Big Breakfast" become popular in local shops, western and local café, and stalls in Chinese Kopitiams. BUT some hotels also offer specifically just the "歐陸式早餐 Continental Breakfast" as a Standard and many cases as a 自助式 Buffet style while "英式早餐 English Breakfast" and "美式早餐 American Breakfast" are offered as 單點 Ala-Carte or 預製份量 Pre-made Servings.
"歐陸式早餐 Continental Breakfast" is usually a lighter meal and also possibly lesser meat choices (or no cooked meats) or meats of cold and room temperatures. So, the Continental Breakfast only comes with 冷盤系列 Cold Cuts and a good variety of 起司 Cheese, 水果 Fruits, and 乳製品 Diary Products; these choices are very common in 自助早餐 Buffet breakfast offered in many smaller Hotels in European countries as there easier to prepare (without the cooked meat choices). On the other hand, "英式早餐 English and 美式早餐 American Breakfasts" always comes with cooked Meat (warm), and are heavier, more filling, higher in calories! Not too sure how to pin down the difference between English and American Breakfast as both will serve 蛋 Eggs, some form of Meat like 香腸 Sausages or 火腿 Ham or 培根 Bacon, 煎餅 Pancakes, 吐司 Toast on the side. But 糖果 Sweets and 水果 Fruits are usually not that common in the English and American Breakfast. And I believe 煎餅 Pancake and 穀物 Cereals are a common feature of the American Breakfast.
Many luxurious hotels offers everything from Cold Cuts, to even a variety of Cooked Meats, Eggs, Pancakes, Fruits, Cereals, and good choice of Diary Products in their Buffet breakfast; in this case, it is probably offering a mix of all 3 kinds of Breakfast: "美式早餐 American Breakfast" + "歐陸式早餐 Continental Breakfast" + "英式早餐 English Breakfast".
