Thoughts: Opened on the January 21 (6 days ago) on the 年三十 EVE of Chinese New Year, "1957 Kopi 大妹咖啡山四會濑粉" is the latest F&B in USJ1's Taman Subang Mewah. Said to have a 60 years history, started in 1957 at 霹靂州 Perak's 務邊 Gopeng 咖啡山新村 Kopisan new Village 四會瀨粉 "SiHui Lai Fun". Presently to-date is the 第四代 4th Generation managing the noodle specialty business.
Thoughts: Opened on the January 21 (6 days ago) on the 年三十 EVE of Chinese New Year, "1957 Kopi 大妹咖啡山四會濑粉" is the latest F&B in USJ1's Taman Subang Mewah. Said to have a 60 years history, started in 1957 at 霹靂州 Perak's 務邊 Gopeng 咖啡山新村 Kopisan new Village 四會瀨粉 "SiHui Lai Fun". Presently to-date is the 第四代 4th Generation managing the noodle specialty business.
Initially in the 50s that the Laifun was made 純米製作 with only pure rice (similar to how 客家老鼠粉 Hakka Rat noodle and 福建米苔目 Hokkien Mi Tai Mu were made). The Ancestors of the Mok brothers migrated to Nanyang from 中國四回省瀨粉 in the early 20th Century and settled in a small village Kopisan 咖啡山, 20 kilometers from Ipoh. To make a living, Mok brother's Granny harness on the only skill she brought from China which is making Lai fun to make a living; by selling as a street vendor under a big tree in Kopisan.
Indeed, the 濑粉 Laifun is a 廣東省著名傳統小吃 famous traditional noodle snack in Guang Dong, China. The traditional Chinese 濑粉 Laifun is a kind of long noodle made by mixing hot water with glutinous rice flour after grinding rice. The noodle is reported to have 發源地 few birthplaces: 雲浮新興 Yunfu Xinxing, 佛山高明 Foshan Gaoming, 東莞厚街 Dongguan Houjie, 江門恩平 Jiangmen Enping and 和廣州西關 Guangzhou Xiguan. This type of Noodle is also popular in 香港 Hong Kong and 澳門 Macau.
Back to the Mok family, and the 3rd generation 莫德明夫婦 Mr & Mrs Mok (大明與大妹) concentrated on perfecting the making of 四會瀨粉 SiHui LaiFun; like for example adding 薯粉 sweet potato flour to control the texture to be 韧性 tougher and 彈性 chewiness of the Lai Fun with the increase of the length of the noodle. History of what goes into a bowl of Laifun always changed through time; while in the 50s Laifun noodle bowl was served as it is with only the noodle and the 60s, 豬頭皮 pig skin, 鮮蚶 fresh cockles, 魷魚 squids were added to complement the Laifun. AND later in the 70s, a variety of 釀料 stuffed items (like 酿豆腐 Yong Tao Fu) and 炸料 fried items were added for customer choice.

The new noodle house in USJ1 offers standard Noodle bowls (咖哩 Curry broth, 亞參叻沙 Asam, 清湯 clear soup) with their 自製濑粉 home-made Laifun as well as 自製黃麵 Yellow noodle OR 4 other noodles: 粿條 Kway Teow, 米粉 Meehon, 老鼠粉 Loh Si Fun, and 雲吞麵 Wanton Mee. Unfortunately the 1957 braised Pork Leg and braised pork ear were not available today, settled for the excellent rm$4.90 大妹滷雞腳 Braised chicken leg (highly recommended!). Instead of the standard noodle bowl, ordered the Laifun Kosong with the signature Curry broth! For the sides, over 20 kinds of 自製酿豆腐 home-made Yong Tao Foo are available (from rm$1.40 to rm$1.80 per pc) either choose from the menu OR self-service from the fridge at the back. Customer can also order any of the Braised or Yong Tao Foo items to go with 椰漿飯 Nasi Lemak!
