While perhaps the Taco was made popular to the world by the American Taco Bell, "玉米餅 Taco" or "Tay-Kohs" is a 傳統墨西哥食物 traditional Mexican food where basically the Taco is a 玉米 corn or 小麥 wheat 玉米餅 Tortilla (Tortiall = "Mexican" Bread) stuffed with a seasoned filling and garnish that comes in a 硬殼 Hard-shell or 軟殼 Soft-shell. In 墨西哥 Mexico, the word Taco is a generic term like the English word sandwich. A Taco is simply a Tortilla wrapped around a filling!
A Taco can be made with a variety of fillings, including 牛肉 beef, 豬肉 pork, 雞肉 chicken, 海鮮seafood, 豆類 beans, 蔬菜 vegetables, and 奶酪 cheese, allowing for great versatility and variety. They are often garnished with various condiments, such as 莎莎醬 salsa, 鱷梨醬 guacamole, or 酸奶油 sour cream, and 蔬菜 vegetables, such as 生菜 lettuce, 洋蔥 onion, 西紅柿 tomatoes, and 辣椒 chilis. 古代墨西哥人 Ancient Mexicans used freshly made, soft, flat corn tortillas and gave them with fillings like fish and cooked organs. It was a staple meal that provided vital nutrients and energy to those who consumed it. The word "Taco" is quite new. It originated from 墨西哥銀礦工人 Mexican silver miners in the 十八世紀 18th century. Gunpowder was wrapped in a paper like a “塔基多 Taquito” and inserted into rocks before detonation. By this time, Tacos were known as the food of the working class, which included miners. This resulted in their portable street food being called “Tacos de Minero“, also known as “礦工的炸玉米餅 Miner’s Tacos”.
