印度炒麵 Mee Goreng (Today)
Lunch today is a rm$8.50 印度炒麵 Indian Mee Goreng in a Chinese Vegetarian restaurant. Mee Goreng (or Mie Goreng in Indonesia) is one of the most popular fried noodle dishes in Malaysia and Indonesia or probably 東南亞 South East Asia. Of course, there are so many different kinds of mee goreng out there. The Indian Mee Goreng (or Indian Fried Noodle) is very much a 素食炒麵 vegetarian fried noodle dish that uses 黃麵 yellow egg noodles, savory, spicy, and slightly wet with umami sauce along with slices of 土豆 potatoes, 炸豆腐 fried tofu, 蔬菜 vegetables (usually 番茄塊 tomato cubes, 豆芽 bean sprouts, and 菜心 choy sum), and topped with a 柠檬 Lime; and usually found in 嘛嘛档 Mamak (Indian Muslim) restaurants.
I think 吉隆坡印度炒麵 KL style Indian Mee Goreng comes with that "棕色 brown hue" but the northern 檳城印度炒麵 Penang mamak mee goreng is thoroughly red, likely due to the tomato sauce (or maybe red food coloring) used. And In some hawker stalls, mee rebus gravy is poured over the noodles. It is said that the Indian Mee Goreng best resembles our 華巫印 unique ethnic blend of the Chinese, Malay, and Indian Culture where the Yellow Noodles are from the Chinese, and the name "Mee Goreng" is Malay word, while the spices and cooking is done by our Indian friends. and some even say that the "Red" color from the Penang style Indian Mee Goreng, which is the Tomato Sauce; and for that, we have the British to thank for. BUT today's Indian Mee Goreng, coming out from a Chinese kitchen also wasn't too bad! Food today: 7 / 10 👍👍😋😋
