Thoughts: New menu item from USJ12's "Grandma's home-cook), make sure you call to check-out what is on the menu the next day and make a reservation before next day collection. Today's lunch meal is a rm$5 Nasi Lemak box which comes with a 炸雞 fried chicken, 炸江魚仔 fried anchovies, 花生 nuts, even some 馬來天貝 tempeh, 滷蛋 half a braised boiled egg, some 黃瓜 cucumber, a bowl of 白飯 white rice plus a pack of 咖哩醬 curry sauce and 超級辣叁巴醬 super spicy sambal. Plus rm$2 for some 雞肉鬆 chicken floss (which may not worth the price). But the rm$5 Nasi Lemak concoction mentioned wasn't just super-value for money but also taste great. Current collection time is around noon time, but best to call for reservation a day before.

Fun Facts: 椰漿飯 Nasi Lemak is a dish originating in 馬來菜餚 Malay cuisine that consists of fragrant rice cooked in 椰奶 Coconut milk and 班蘭葉 pandan leaf. The word "Nasi Lemak" literally means "Fatty Rice", "Fatty or Lemak" is in the context of both Creamy and Riche due to the way Rice is cooked with 椰奶 Coconut milk and 班蘭葉 Pandan leaves that gives the rice a distinctive flaor. The simplest version would probably be just the pandan-coconut flavored rice with sambal plus some anchovies and nuts. It is such a popular dish easily found in restaurants or morning street vendors that it is considered a 馬來西亞的國菜 National dish of Malaysia. But the Malay-style breakfast dish is something that can be found in 新加坡 Singapore, 文萊 Brunei, 印度尼西亞 Indonesia, 泰國南部 Southern Thailand or even parts of the 菲律賓 Philippines. Whether it is Singapore or Malaysia origin dish may not matter as the Nasi Lemak dish appeared long before the two countries were formed! In fact the Nasi lemak dish was mentioned in a book "The Circumstances of Malay Life", written by Sir Richard Olof Winstedt (an 英國東方學家和殖民地管理員 English Orientalist and colonial administrator with expertise in 英屬馬來亞 British Malaya) in 1909, a period during the 英國殖民 British colonization of the 馬來半島 Malay Peninsular.

At least I have seen and sampled the following variants of Nasi Lemak:

馬來西亞華人椰漿飯 Malaysian Chinese Nasi Lemak usually offers 咖哩 豬肉 pork curry, 咖哩山豬肉 wild boar curry, "臘腸 lap cheong", even 午餐肉 luncheon meat, usually with not too spicy sambal (sometimes sweet with lots of onions)

馬來西亞印度椰漿飯 Malaysian Indian Nasi Lemak usually without beef but lots of curry varieties including 羊肉咖哩 mutton curry or recipes like 印度幹咖哩雞 chicken varuval

素食椰漿飯 Vegetarian Nasi Lemak will replace the 鳳尾魚 anchovies and 蝦醬叁巴 shrimp paste sambal with vegetarian substitutes

米南加保椰漿飯 Minangkabau Nasi Lemak seems to offer mainly 仁當牛肉 Rendang meats of beef and 仁當雞肉 rendang chicken
娘惹椰漿飯 Nyonya Nasi Lemak with more ginger in the rice, the special 娘惹叁巴醬 Nyonya sambal, 娘惹阿雜 Acar, and a variety of Nyonya sides like the 娘惹酸辣辣叁巴臭豆蝦 Nyonya shrimp curry

印尼棉蘭椰漿飯 Indonesian Medan Nasi Lemak serves with 仁當 Rendang, 印尼巴拉多蛋 Balado (Shrimp or egg in chili sauce) and of course the 印尼土豆油炸餡餅 Perkedel (fried potato patties) and even some crackers

異國風味椰漿飯 Exotic Nasi Lemak can come with 龍蝦 Lobster, 蟹 Crab, and 老虎蝦 Tiger Prawns

新加坡華人椰漿飯 Singaporean Malay Nasi Lemak comes with a variety of 炸肉 fried meats, 咖哩蔬菜 curry vegetables, and 午餐肉 luncheon meat. Sometimes "綠色飯 Green color" rice!

The 傳統馬來椰漿飯 traditional Malay Nasi Lemak is the most common version of Nasi Lemak on the streets of cities and villages across the country of Malaysia where a typical pack comes with the rice, egg, anchovies, nuts and spicy sambal (although the Singapore Malay Nasi Lemak's sambal are generally less spicy perhaps to also cater to the Singaporean Chinese), most vendors also offers 魷魚 Sotong, 貝類 Kerang, 牛肉 Daging, 炸雞 Fried chicken, or 煎魚 Fried Fish (like 甘榜魚 Ikan Kembung) and usually a variety of 內臟 Meat innards like 牛肺 Paru or Lung; typically can be from rm$2+ to rm$6+ or more depending on what the customer pick. The Nasi Lemak and a glass of 拉茶 Teh Tarik is a breakfast that most Malaysian can crave for once in awhile and sometimes more often than we should as it can be quite a "高熱量 heavy carb" breakfast. 

Then again, the "best" Nasi Lemak may not really need all the exotic meats but rather just the warm coconut flavored rice with some "not overly" spicy sambal, plus the usual 煮雞蛋 boiled egg, 花生 nuts, and 炸江魚仔 anchovies; and all wrapped inside a 香蕉葉包 banana leaf packet; and of course a glass of 熱少甜拉茶 hot Teh Tarik kurang manis!
