Thoughts: One of the cheapest Instant Noodle displayed on the shelves at AEON Big, this is the rm$1.80 "媽咪麵(印尼風味杯麵) Mie Goreng Indonesia (MAMEE)". And this is the Malaysia Instant Noodle company "MAMEE" (or MAMEE Double-Decker Sdn Bhd), a company started by 馮振軒 Datuk Pang Chin Hin, that takes on an Indonesian favorite; the "Mie Goreng". Mie goreng (or mi goreng that means "fried noodles"), also known as bakmi goreng in Indonesia; is an 印尼風格 Indonesian style of 炒麵 stir fried noodle dish. Ubiquitous in Indonesia, it is sold by food vendors from 街頭小販 street-hawkers, 小店 warungs, to 高檔餐廳 high-end restaurants.

This looks like a meat free noodle cup (at least according to the descriptions on the cup). To prepare, its 3 minutes in boiling water for the noodle block in the cup. After draining off the hot water, add in the sachet of 調味料 seasoning and another sachet that contains some 鬆脆東西 crunchy stuff (maybe fried onions). Then there are 2 liquid packs: one pack is some kind of 甜醬油 sweet soy sauce, and another pack looks like 辣椒油 chili oil. Then it is time to mix all of it thoroughly with the plastic spoon provided. Into the concoction, I have added an unlikely combination for the Indonesian Mie Goreng, which is the Chinese 皮蛋 century egg (duck version). Did not expect the sweet flavor (just a little spicy), and would have been better if the sauce were spicier. Since today cup is the "ASLI or ORIGINAL", there is also the "SAMBAL PEDAS" variant which should be the spicier variant.
Fun facts: Century Egg (or in Chinese 皮蛋 Pí Dàn), sometimes also called "Thousand-Year-Old-Eggs". In China, it is also being referred to as 變蛋 Bian Dan or 松花蛋 Song Hua Dan. 皮蛋 Century Eggs are a Chinese egg-based culinary dish made by preserving 鴨蛋 duck, 雞蛋 chicken or 鵪鶉蛋 quail eggs in a mixture of 鹼性粘土 Alkaline Clay, 灰 Ash, 鹽 Salt, 生石灰 Quicklime, and 稻殼 Rice hulls for several weeks to several months depending on the techniques. The final result is the 蛋黃 egg yolk turns into “臭臭的”的深綠色或深灰色 "stinky" dark green or dark grey color, while the 蛋白 egg whites becomes a 深棕色半透明的果凍 dark brown translucent jelly with a little bit of salty flavor in it. Much like the 榴蓮 Durian, the Century Egg is an 後天的品味 acquired taste; it is all depending on the individual.
According to "益陽縣誌 Yiyang County Chronicles", 皮蛋 preserved eggs were discovered by chance in 益陽縣 Yiyang County, 湖南省 Hunan Province in the 明朝初年 early Ming Dynasty. At that time which is 600 years ago, 一家人所養的鴨 a family’s duck 下蛋 lay eggs in a 石灰鹵 shallow pool of slaked lime at home in rural china. These eggs were found two months later. After peeling them, the 蛋白蛋黃皆已凝固 egg whites and yolks were all solidified. Upon tasting the eggs, the homeowner set out to produce more this time with the addition of 鹽 salt to improve their flavor resulting in the present recipe of the 皮蛋 century egg.
In theory, 皮蛋 Century Eggs are relatively save for consumption as long as they are 無鉛 lead-free; so, it is probably good to check the product labels if there is any at all. Some studies found that due to the 化學過程 chemical processes that goes into the formation of Century Eggs, there may still contain a tiny amount of lead which is below regulation level. Therefore, it is better to check if the shell is cracked after peeling off the 稻殼 Rice hulls and to eat them sparingly. Usually, the simplest way to eat the Century Eggs are with 醃姜 pickled ginger. Another classic dish is 皮蛋 Century Eggs with 白豆腐 White Tofu and garnished with lots of 蔥 green onions, 辣椒 chili, 香菜 parsley, 蒜 garlics, and poured with 辣椒油 chili oil. There is no cooking required here as both the 皮蛋 Century Eggs and 白豆腐 White Tofu can be eaten raw, this is often considered as a 冷盤 Cold dish (凉拌 Liang Barn) or 開胃菜 Appetizer dish.
