The rm$8.50 干撈長壽麵 dry Longevity noodle can go with either 豬扒 Pork Chop or 雞扒 Chicken Chop. And the box comes with 2 fairly large Terriyaki style Pork Chops, generous amounts of Longevity noodles with very very nice sauce as well as some 乾蝦桑巴 dry prawn sambals (excellent noodles and sambal combo).
長壽麵 Longevity noodles (long life noodle) are a type of 伊麵 Yi Mein, which is a 廣東雞蛋麵 Cantonese egg noodle made up of 小麥 wheat flour. Noodles were probably invented more than 四千多年前 4000 years ago in the 中國西北地區 northwestern part of China, the concept of 長壽麵條 Longevity noodles only started to become popular during the 唐朝 Tang Dynasty (from 618 to 907), especially for 出生日 births and 生日 birthdays, which is why they are now also called 生日面 birthday noodles. 壽日吃麵 Eating noodles on your birthday means 延年益壽 prolonging your life. Therefore, longevity noodles are 要求長達三尺 required to be three feet long, with 每束須百根以上 more than 100 strands in each bundle, 盤成塔形 plated into a tower shape, and covered with 紅綠剪紙的壽字 red and green paper-cut longevity characters on the noodles as a 壽禮 birthday gift; and It is also the 生日時最要緊的飲食 most important food for birthdays.
But today, 長壽麵 Longevity noodle is a dish not only commonly served on birthdays but also during 春節 Chinese new year (especially as 齋食 vegetarian dish on the 年初一 1st day of the New Year to probably the common practice of the 福建人 Hokkiens and 廣東人 Cantonese people).
