Thoughts: Unfortunately, Sunway Pyramid's "檀島香港茶餐廳 Honolulu Cafe",known for its Egg Tarts, Polo Bun, and Hong Kong Milk Tea; is now shut down "temporarily" (according to Google map) maybe succumbed to the stresses of Covid-19. But there are still at least 3 spots for a cup of 香港奶茶 Hong Kong Milk Tea inside Sunway Pyramids: 香港仔車仔麵 HK Boy Cart Noodle, 旺角茶餐廳 Wong Kok Char Chan Teng, as well as 香港金加利茶餐廳 Kim Gary. Sunway Pyramid's Kim Gary is located at the East Wing "Oasis Boulevard" where all the Porky, Gastropubs, or the Non-Halal corner of the Shipping Mall. Both 旺角茶餐廳 Wong Kok and 金加利茶餐廳 Kim Gary have at least 12 or more outlets mostly in the Klang Valley.

Instead of 香港奶茶 Hong Kong Milk Tea, it is the rm$5.90 "熱杏仁茶 Hot Almond Tea" as today is the debut of a series of Almond Tea in their new menu: offering in 4 variants of Almond Tea: 熱杏仁茶 Hot, 凍杏仁茶 Cold, with 熱咖啡杏仁茶 Hot Coffee, as well as 凍咖啡杏仁茶 Cold Coffee. I first tried the Almond Tea in Penang Island, which is a common hot beverage in any coffee shops (Chinese Kopitiam) in the Island, a cup of hot almond tea around Penang Island is around rm$1.80 - rm$2+, as an alternative to a cup of Kopi or Teh. Kim Gary's rm$5.90 Hot Almond Tea is thick and good flavor of Almond powder.

杏仁茶 Almond Tea isn't a new fad, as it dates back to the 18th Century of China during the reign of the 乾隆帝 Qianlong Emperor of the 清乾 Qing Dynasty. The records of "杏仁茶 Almond Tea" can be found in 隨園食單 Suiyuan Shidan (The Way of Eating), which is the works of a Qing Dynasty 學者 scholar and 美食家 gastronome by the name of 袁枚 Yuan Mei.

Thick Almond Tea (1792)

From 隨園食單  Suiyan Shidan  

捶杏仁作漿，抆去渣，拌米粉，加糖熬之

Beat almonds (Apricot Kernel/Chinese Almond) to make pulp. Filter out the residue. Boil with "sticky" rice flour. Finish off with sugar.

This tea is still served in China, especially during the 寒食 "Hanshi" Cold Food Festival, which is a traditional Chinese holiday which developed from the commemoration of the death of a 一个春秋时期的晋国忠臣 Jin nobleman 介子推 Jie Zitui in the 7th century BC under the 周朝 Zhou dynasty, which is now the 寒食 "Hanshi" Cold Food Festival and also known as 清明節 Tomb-Sweeping Festival. 

杏仁核 Apricot kernels, also known as “中國杏仁 Chinese Almonds,” are considered a 藥用食品 medicinal food that comes in two types: 北苦 Northern Bitter and 南甜 Southern Sweet. Eating too many raw apricot kernels can cause cyanide poisoning, especially the bitter ones.

Legend has it that, there was a famous doctor 董奉 Dong Feng (220-280) who would ask his patients to pay him by planting an 杏樹 apricot tree. Over time he had an enormous 杏林 apricot tree forest which later become a 中國文化象徵 Chinese cultural symbol associated with physicians and hospitals. Apricot trees are now planted commercially around the world or in spacious home gardens for its fruit, longevity and its beauty; as 杏樹 Apricot are 多年生植物 perennials which can live from 40 to 150 years. Spring 杏花 Apricot blossoms are said to be as beautiful as 樱花 Cheery Blossoms or 梅花 Plum Blossoms.
