Thoughts: From a google search, the entrance fee is around 150 000 VND/person (or rm$26.50), for the "Vietnam Tour" organized by AirLink, all entrance fees are already included in the Tour Package. I believe you can get a bundle of 3-4 tombs tour for a cheaper price (something discussed in Tripadvisor)! Located about 10km+ from the city of Hue, Khai Dinh tomb is said to be the most costly tomb among other tombs where the "Emperor Khai Dinh" choose this location himself to build his own tomb, which is at the slopes of Chau Chu (Chau E) Mountain for a place of the Emperor "as a Home to another World"!
Khai Dinh, the 12th King under Nguyen Reign died in 1925 (Khai Dinh only sat as King for 9 years from 1916 under his passing at the age of 40) and the tomb started construction in 1920, and with 11 years of construction completed by his successor Emperor Bao Dai.

During the years of its construction, Vietnam was invaded by France and there after, Western civilization was prevailing all over the country. Consequently, Khai Dinh tomb is the outcome of the fusion of Orientals and 西方的 Occidental, 罗马式风格 Roman and 哥特式风格 Gothic style, 印度教和佛教风格 Hindu and Buddhist style, as well as ancient and modern features.
The main tomb structure (palace), leaning against the mountain, will take 125+ steps to climb. From the stairs, to the walls, there are lots of dragon features where the dragon is a sacred feature of Vietnamese believe then and now.
Of course, the most prominent feature of this site is the Khai Dinh tomb itself "Thien Dinh Palace" that houses bronze figurines and the 石碑 stone tablets of the king where the walls and ceilings are sculptured with intricate glass and porcelain designs. One can see East and Western arts influences in the Palace interiors itself.
However, the story of "Khai Dinh King" is an intriguing one; the man was said to have a fascination of western civilization, its culture, architecture and arts. Khai Dinh even went abroad to the West (France) to study the Arts. Khai Dinh’s love for French culture and throughout cooperation led him to carry a title of “The Bamboo Dragon” almost hinting the fact that he was a powerless French Puppet. Khai Dinh has 10 wives but only fathered 1 son, and many rumors about the King being impotent and why that he could even have a son at all! More interesting was that, Khai Dinh have always preferred male companions over his concubines, and every night, he would like to stay with one of this faithful royal guard named Nguyen Dac Vong rather than go to his concubines’ places. Like his father Dong Khanh, Khai Dinh had an ill-fated life and died of tuberculosis in 1925, at the young age of 40.
Despite that Khai Dinh may not have served his people well, he was remembered for sponsoring many ornate palaces and a revolutionist in art and architecture in Vietnam. Many East-West architectural fusion works under his directive can still be witnessed in Vietnam, especially the Imperial City which is located in the heart of the city of Hue.
Our tour was only about 60 minutes but if you are an architectural student or enthusiast, a 4 hour or more of tour/study time may be more meaningful.
