Thoughts: The history of "Ampang Yong Tao Foo" really began in Ampang new Village which I have no idea when it started but I have already visited it in the 90s while working in KL then. It is said to be of Hakka style Yong Tao Foo, there used to be one such "Ampang Yong Tao Foo" for quite some years in USJ at a corner shop lot where "Magic Boo" is currently occupying!
For lunch, I have found one today (not sure its a branch of the former one) as it is called "新安邦传统酿豆腐 New Ampang Yong Tao Foo" at a shop along SS2/66; if not mistaken, it should be newly opened. The restaurant not only offers Yong Tao Foo but also soup noodles, curry or dry noodles. To go along with the YTF, both Chee Cheong Fun and white rice are available options.
Most if not all the YTF are freshly made to order; the YTF comes in clear soup. Particularly interesting Yong Tao Foo variant are Nangka and Enoki YTF; others are commonly available in competitors. The Nangka YTF is deep fried, the sweet Nangka with the fish paste dipped into sweet and chili sauce is both funky and appetizing; its both tasty as well as creative fusion. The Enoki YTF is wrapped tightly with bean curd (and maybe a little fish paste too) also very nice.
The slightly expensive but also tasty Chee Cheong Fun comes with lots of sesame and fried onions. This new "新安邦传统酿豆腐 New Ampang Tradition Yong Tau Foo" in SS2 definitely worth another visit in the future!
