Thoughts: So, after the Imperial Palace tour; there is a 20+ minutes ride on "Xich Lo" (Vietnam Tricycle/Cyclo) from the Palace area around parts of Hue city where the Ride ends at the Lunch venue location.
The tricycle called Cyclo was invented by a French gentleman name "Pierre Coupeaud" from 法国夏朗德 Charente in 1930s and brought the invention to French Indo-China. At first, it was designed with 3 wheels and pulled by people (just like the "Rickshaw") but later the Cyclo was developed to paddle by human until today. The "Xich Lo" (Cyclo) was first introduced in Saigon and quickly replace the "Rickshaw" after some promotion by the French. The "Xich Lo" is a good means of transport for Cargos as well as groups of people but it was too expensive a ride for the general public. But that soon change after the French occupation ended in the mid 50s where the local Vietnamese started copying the French made "Xich Lo" (Cyclo) design using local and cheaper materials and it soon made way for this form of transport to be most popular on the streets of many Vietnam cities.
When the motorbikes came in the 90s, the Vietnamese were quick to embrace the new form of transport and soon millions of motorbikes were on the streets of Vietnam. This cause many Cyclo drivers worrying for their livelihood but luckily at the same period of the early 90s, tourism started in Vietnam; the "Xich Lo" (Cyclo) became popular again as a means of transport to transfer tourists to visit old streets in Vietnam.
The Cyclo is good to travels in a slower speed for tourism purpose (albeit no seat belts nor hand reels on the vehicle), this means tourist can even take casual videos and photographs easily with a mobile phone or camera while the Cyclo was in motion. In major cities like Hanoi, maybe the Cyclo Rider could speak some English; but my Rider only speak Vietnamese!
I believe the cost per Cyclo ride maybe rm$40 - rm$50 (USD$10) not including the tip to the Rider.
Tour: 6.5 / 10 👍👍😋
