Thoughts: Opened less than a week ago in 9th October 2019, inside Bandar Sunway's Rock Cafe, the stall reveals itself as the only 台北五号 Taipei No.5 operation in Malaysia (according to the operator here). There is another Taipei No. 5 in Puchong (was told its no longer in operation as even the facebook address now shows Rock Cafe); maybe it has since moved here!
The story is that the founder of 台北五号 grew up in a poor family and wanted to offer 5-Star Western style steaks to the public with affordable prices, hence the creation of 台北五号 Taipei No.5. The name 台北五号 Taipei No.5 is a Malaysian brand name but the Origin of the company with some other name is from Taiwan. The company is said to be the biggest Direct Wholesale Meat Trader in Asia, reducing the high cost the middle-man and therefore able to offer more affordable meat for the consumers; via that and the business model of offering steaks in food court settings. "台北五号 Taipei No.5 Sizzling Plate Cuisine" is available for Franchising at a costs of rm$36000!
According to the the Operation director Mr.Nelson Lee, the Pork ribs sampled are boiled for several hour before a slight seasoning and then further home-made seasoning before grilling to perfection. For the price of rm$29.80, its definitely more than value for money, the presentation is a feast to the eyes on a sizzling plate which interestingly also comes with rice, some vegetables and an egg; a rather interesting combination.
台北五号 will be choosing the Malaysian market's 排挡市场 Food Court locations for its cheaper rental rates and thus able to offer affordable 5-star style steaks to the general public. According to Mr. Nelson Lee, only 30 of the "烤排骨饭 Roasted Pork Rib Rice" are available for each session (lunch and dinner) as it operators from 11am to 11pm. A choice of 14 steaks with meat choices of chicken, pork, squid, and beef are offered with prices from rm$9.80 to rm$29.80. I can't remember the signature dishes recommended by Mr. Nelson as I wan't sinking into the Ribs while he explained it to me; but I'd say that all dishes seems quite appetizing for any meat lovers. Interestingly, one can get beer from Rock Cafe and it does seem that you can have your porky meal anywhere within Rock Cafe, indoors or outdoors!
Anyway, no complaints on the tasty 烤排骨饭 Roasted Pork Rib Rice!
