Thoughts: Young and Jackson is a hotel in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, at the corner of Flinders Street and Swanston Street. It is listed as one of the most iconic hotel in Australia and also on the Victorian Heritage Register, you would know why when viewing the Architectural style of the building from outside. The hotel offers a cafe as well as a "lounge" for beer drinkers and horse racing gambling. Strategically located at a corner of Flinders Street and Swanston Street, it can be easily seen from the Train/Ram entering the City from St.Kilda road! It's also opposite Flinder's street railway station and St.Pauls Cathedral.
The ground floor bars boast a selection of over 30 beers and ciders on tap, including classic favourites, imported essentials and boutique brews. The first floor provides a relaxed atmosphere, comfortable couches, boutique beers, fine wine and exotic cocktails. There is also a roof top bar offering ciders on tap!
Happy hours at the ground floor is at $5/pot! (until 6pm). I had the "Furphy", which is a local Melbourne based brewery, was told that the brewery is just somewhere across the city/street (nearby)! The brewery has over 100 years of history in Victoria. I think it is a popular beer for locals as is offered in many beer locations.
Other than the witnessing of Australian beer drinking culture in this pub which is packed, "Young and Jackson" is definitely an interesting place to also witness legal horse racing betting and gambling culture with several monitors lighted up showing horse racing in action. A place to be to witness part of the Australian culture!
