The famous "珍珠奶茶街 Boba/Bubble Tea street" in SS15 along on SS15/4 but continue from road 4 to SS 15/7 and then road 8 are a few more "Tea" shops and one of them is 貢茶 Gong Cha". At the height of the boba tea frenzy (before Covid 19), along SS15/4 housed from 15 to 20 boba tea outlets. I think the same road now left with less than 10 boba tea shops.
“貢茶 Gong Cha” is a Chinese term for the act of offering the best tea to the Emperor. In 2006, 2 Taiwanese buddies established the 貢茶 Gong Cha brand and opened their first outlet in 高雄市 Kaohsiung City, 台灣 Taiwan. Not just bubble tea, but the brand's 招牌奶泡 signature is their "Signature Milk Foam". 貢茶 Gong Cha expanded to 香港 Hong Kong in 2009 and then established in 馬來西亞 Malaysia by Teafe (M) Sdn Bhd since April, 2011 and instantly became phenomenally popular. They are probably only 20+ 貢茶 Gong Cha (maybe more) in Klang Valley and Subang area alone are 3 of them: Sunway Pyramids, SS15, and USJ10. Not just in Asian markets, the brand now is said to have at least 150 stores in the 美國 United States; and over 1,100 stores World Wide.
Many 30+ Bubble Tea drinkers will remember about the "台灣食品醜聞 2011 Taiwan Food Scandal". In May 2011, a scandal broke out in Taiwan when many drinks were found to contain 鄰苯二甲酸二辛酯 DEHP, a 通用型增塑劑 plasticiser which was added as a clouding agent in order to improve the appearance of the drinks. Ingestion of DEHP is known to cause heart problems and to affect male genital development. Even though Gong Cha's products were proved to contain no DEHP, the sales record of its branch in 銅鑼灣 Causeway Bay dropped approximately 30%, caused by the news spread to 香港 Hong Kong. Gong Cha took a variety of actions to restore consumer confidence in the products, such as conducting tests on ingredients imported from Taiwan in order to prove their safety and in June 2011 discontinued certain kinds of juices in its Hong Kong branches before the test reports released.
