Cuisine: IndianFood Thoughts: I am not sure if Nasi Kandar originated from Penang; a google search result did mention it is an Indian Muslims creation hailed from Penang. It is certainly a dish popular in Northern Peninsular Malaysia where it is believed that about 70 years ago, when Indian Muslim immigrants roamed the port and dusty streets of colonial Penang. At least that is one version of the history of Origin of Nasi Kandar!
The dish is really basically your "Nasi Campur/Mixed Rice" with your choice of dishes and loads of Curry flooding the entire plate. For my dish of Nasi Kandar at the Stadium Curry Hourse (USJ16) today are Spiced Fried Chicken, Fried Squid, and Fried Capsicum with the curry and dhal on the side; not flooding the plate. When asked, I was given to load of papadams to go with the Nasi Kandar (I think it is free). I do like the dishes as well as the Teh Tarik better than "Sri Melur Jaya" across the street in USJ 17.
