I have no idea of the classification of Chinese Cuisines but 西北菜 North Western Chinese Cuisine is probably a form of mixture of Northern and Western China Food! The popular and variety of 西北菜 comes with Local flavors of 甘肃 Gansu, 宁夏 Ningxia, 青海 Qinghai, or even 新疆等地方风味 Xinjiang etc. from the 油泼扯面 Oily noodles which I am sampling today, to 兰州牛肉面/臊子面 Lanzhou Beef/Minced Meat Noodle, or 凉皮 Cold Skin noodle to 孜然烤排骨 Grilled Ribs plus many more. And some of these 西北菜 North Western Chinese Cuisine which are offered in this Chinese Restaurant from China.
The Restaurant offers a variety of Chinese Tea (probably something common in Chinese Restaurants in China)! The rm$3.90 "雲南普洱 Pu Er Tea" was nice! The quick bite before the Noodle was the rm$3.50 肉夾饃 "Rou Jia Mo" like a "Meat Sandwiched in a Bread" or sometimes even referred to as a "Chinese Burger", said to be a common street food in Xanshi but nowadays also consumed all over China. 肉夾饃 "Rou Jia Mo" could be the world's oldest sandwich or hamburger, since the bread or the "饃 Mo" dates back to the 秦朝 Qin dynasty (221–206 BC). The Meat is mainly Pork, traditionally cooked for long hours with lots of spices. The meat is then minced or chopped and stuffed in "白吉饃 Baijimo", a type of flatbread. And probably that was what I had today as well!
油潑扯面 "YouPo Chemian" or Oily noodles, and sometime referred to as "Biang Biang Noodle" is a popular noodle in 山西 Shanxi Province. The interesting noodle is touted as one of the "陝西八大怪 Eight strange Wonders of Shaanxi", visually the noodle looks like a 皮帶 belt, owing to the noodle width! The broad and hand-made noodle was originally said to tbe part of a poor man's meal in the countryside. The name "Biang Biang Mian" has 58 strokes, and one of the most complex Chinese Character; the cheating way to write it is "比昂比昂面" as not sure if the word can even be found in Chinese dictionaries and not in Google Translate!
The origin of the word seemed cannot be verified and some scholars suggest that the word is the creation of a noodle shop! and "Biang Biang" comes from the sound of the dough bouncing on the work surface while being pulled into the form of thick/wide noodles. 聚豐園 Ju Feng Garden offers the noodle as a rm$14.80 "經典三合一" or Classic 3 in 1; the bowl comes with the 油潑扯面 Biang Biang Noodle with 番茄雞蛋 Tomato Egg 和 肉臊 Minced Meats; with Red oil at the bottom and chili spices on the side. The noodle was broad and thick but still smooth and Q- in the bite, the 3-in-1 concoction with the Chili and Red oil was interesting and likely, plus the fact that it is prepared by an experience Owner/Chef from 山西 Shanxi's 西安 Xi’an itself!
The new "聚豐園 Ju Feng Garden", likely one of a few Original Chinese restaurant in Klang Valley, definitely worth sampling their authentic 山西 Shanxi cooking without the need to go all the way to 西安 Xi’an. In the menu, even the very common side dishes or 凉拌 cold sides like 涼皮 Liang Pi, 紅油豬耳 Pig Ear in Red Oil, 紅油皮蛋 Red Oil Thousand year old Egg, or the 水晶皮凍 Chinese style Aspic; all looks interesting and appetizing!
