Today's lunch is a rm$12.90 "素腳醋配糙米飯套餐 Vegetarian Trotters Vinegar w/ Brown Rice". This classic Cantonese dish of Ginger and Vinegar stew is usually cooked with 豬手 Pork Knuckle or 豬蹄 Pork Trotter called "豬腳薑醋". It is traditionally eaten by new mothers in 廣州 Guangzhou to restore strength and health during the 坐月期 Confinement period (for 1 month after the baby is born) and is presented to friends and family to indicate the arrival of a new baby. The tradition carried down to Nanyang by the Canton immigrants to the South, especially Cantonese people in Malaysia and Singapore. However, the dish is also a popular dish item in many Cantonese restaurants.
Today's lunch is a rm$12.90 vegetarian version of the "豬腳薑醋 Trotter Vinegar stew" where the meaty part is replaced by "猴頭菇 Monkey head Mushroom"! It is a bowl of black sweet vinegar with lots of 薑 Ginger along with the 猴頭菇 Monkey head Mushroom plus 香菇 Mushroom, 木耳 Fungus, some 生菜 Lettuce, 眉豆 Black Eyed Beans, 黑豆 Black Beans, and 煮熟蛋 Boiled egg. The Ala-Carte is rm$11.90, and just add rm$1 for 糙米飯 Brown Rice instead of 白米飯 White Rice. Lunch promotion is from 11:00am to 02:30pm which offer to Add-on a Soup and Herbal drink for rm$1.50. "小蔬林 Food in the Woods" replaced a non-vegetarian Cafe "Eat Together Cafe" on the September 8.2023 this year. Last visit to Puchong Bandar Puteri's "Eat Together Cafe" was April 10.2023 and indeed was the first and last meal at that Cafe. The Puchong branch is the vegetarian restaurant's 1st branch outside of its HQ location in Belakong which started business last year in May 2022. Besides Ala-Carte dishes of Rice, Fried Rice, Noodles and Bento; the menu also offers variety choices of vegetarian dishes (over 70+ dishes) for a meal with several dishes and rice.
