Thoughts: For Netizens, Passport renewal has been simplified as "almost" all Malaysian can renew their Passports online. All you need is to select the Passport collection office, then fill up an online form (less than 10 items), then upload a photo that meets their requirements but the AI-system in the portal may reject your photo, you then pay your 5-year Passport application online. Upon approval, you will get an email for the collection date which will be maybe 1-2/3 days upon a successful application. However, all first time Passport applications must be at a Immigration office personally to apply for their first time Passport.

While I believe all Immigration office allow either Walk-in for new applications or renewal for all Malaysians or On-line application collections if you desire. Since June, 2023, 3 specific locations went fully Online (via the MyONLINE*PASSPORT online platform designed for Passport Renewal only) where they only accept On-line application collections plus New Passport Applications; these locations are the Kelana Kaya branch, Kajang, the Wangsa Maju branch. However, if your application failed then you will have to visit in person at the selected branch of collection to process your Passport Renewal.

Only 50 new/renewal applicants are allowed for the weekday (maybe 25 in the weekends). Highly suggested to go early (maybe before 7am) to get a temporary number before the Office opens at 8am and early birds who gets a number 25 or below can have their passport done in the morning session. Those who get a number above 25 (26 to 50) will have to come back on the same day at 2pm+ to process their Passport renewal or new application. In this way, all 50 applicants do get their Passport done on the same day.
What do you need for Passport renewal for in-person applications:
- Your old Passport
- Your IC
- That's all (no need photo of you or photocopy of your Passport or IC)
The Puchong branch only have 3 Counters (11,12,13) for new Passport application/renewal/payment/collection:
- Counter 13 - Application (to process your applications including handing-in documents, thumbprint and take photo).
- Counter 11 - Payment (only credit card allowed).
- Counter 12 - Collection.
This Process today (the process may not apply to all branches):
- Queue up just outside the Immigration office (along the veranda) to get a temporary number (1-50) before the Office opens at 8am daily (an Immigration officer will be distributing the temporary Queue numbers (1 - 50) starting around 7:30am+ for the early birds). The unlucky 51th person in the Queue will be turned away and will have to come back another day!
- At 8am when the office opens, you will still have to wait for your turn into the ground floor to get another number for your actual Queue # as they only allow a group of maybe 4 or 5 people in at one time. (I think the Ground Floor counters are for IC processing and your Actual Queue# collection only).
- You get an actual Queue# (1001 to 1050) and a small piece of paper to fill up your Name, Address, Telephone, Height, and Marital Status (does not look like an official document).
- My temporary Queue# was 39 (arriving here at 7:30am) and I got the actual Queue number#1039 at around 9:00am (1 hour+ after 8am).
- If your Queue number is 1001-1025, go directly to the 2nd floor for your Passport Processing; otherwise for those who hold the 1026-1050 Queue numbers will have to come back on the same day at 2pm for the 2nd batch of Passport processing.
- Arrived at 2:30pm, it is another 1 hour waiting time for #1039 before a call to Counter 13 to hand-in the Old Passport along with IC as well as the little form. Thumbprints and Passport photo will be taken at the same Counter, and that took maybe less than 3 minutes!
- Payment is done at Counter 11, swiftly almost immediately after the Counter 13 processing (only Credit Card payments are allowed).
- The passport was ready for collection 1 hour later at 4:30pm at Counter 12.
The total time at the Puchong Immigration office was around 3.5 hours+ today albeit most of the time were just waiting. And despite the morning queue (7:30am - 9am+) for a Queue# and Batch 2 processing in the afternoon (2:30pm - 04:30pm+), it isn't that bad as everything was done on the same day. And, I must say that the immigration officers at the Puchong branch are really nice men and women (only 4 officers), very good service offered and still smiling at 4:30pm despite they have been non-stop processing (from 8am) for not just the daily 50 numbers Quota but also servicing the on-line applications collections as well.
The Puchong Immigration branch is a 2 shop lot setup (corner shop lot) in Taman Puchong Utama, which is maybe less than 100m from E11 (Damansara–Puchong Expressway). MPSJ Parking near the Immigration office is generally still possible around 7:30am as the nearby AEON Big "FREE" parking are only available after 8am. If you are Batch 2 (#1026 to #1050), then it is quite possible to park inside AEON Big for Free until 5pm.
