Thoughts: Malaysia, and particularly the Klang Valley, was teeming with supermarkets and grocery stores since the 80s. But these big hypermarkets come and go, and some of us remember the following:
CARREFOUR and JUSCO, both rebranded to AEON BiG.
YAOHAN in the 1980s was another big department store then but in mid 2000s was bought over by PARKSON
FAJAR was also super popular in the 80s, is now part of THE STORE Supermarket.
MAKRO, once a huge thing in Shah Alam is now part of TESCO Extra
JAYA Supermarket built in 1974 was one of the 1st in PJ but collapsed while being torn down for redevelopment in 2009.
And presently, there are still really a lot of Supermarket Chains in the country, maybe 70 or more. Among them, "Jaya Grocer" is going strong in the Grocery Market scene, it started in the mid 2000s with its first store in PJ's Jaya 33. Over time, Jaya Grocer became more than just the local premium grocer in town, and now have over 36 outlets in Peninsular Malaysia, and most in Klang Valley.
At present, there are 2 Jaya Grocers in USJ:
USJ 1 Damen MallUSJ 21 Main Place Mall
Today's grocery includes a variety of 韓國桶裝拉麵 Korean Noodle Bowls. And sampled for lunch, is the rm$6.90 "韓國三養奶酪味面桶裝 Samyang Cheese Flavored Noodles Bowl", the Bowl comes with a packet of 奶酪 cheese and a packet of 超辣醬汁 very spicy sauce. The noodles was very good and the mixture of the cheese and sauce was "spicy" intoxicating; definitely worth sampling compared to the usual rm$3 - rm$4 instant noodle bowls.
Among the popular Korean Instant noodles brands are 農心 Nongshim, 不倒翁 Ottogi, 養樂多 Yakult, and 三養 Samyang; all of these brands can be found in most Grocery stores in Klang Valley or via Online purchase; except 養樂多 Yakult maybe more popular for its "Yakult Yoghurt drinks" than its instant noodles.
韓國三養拉麵 Korean Samyang Instant Noodle is the product of 三養食品 Samyang Foods Industry, an international South Korean food manufacturer and the first instant ramen company in South Korea which was founded in 1961. The company debut its first Korean instant noodle in 1963, and it offers not just 方便麵 Instant Noodles, but also 零食 Snacks, 乳製品 Dairy Products, as well as Buldak source. 韓國三養拉麵 Korean Samyang Instant Noodle bowls comes in many variants (maybe 30 or less); from its classic 1963 invention to Carbonara, Jjajang, Kimchi, and super Spicy!
